Listening to every heart

Rainer Sits My Shadow

Rainer sits my shadow
holding tender my thoughts in his
indescribable poet’s hands.

I did not know him
at first,
though, luckily, a fellow poet
introduced us,
and through the introduction,
he visits me now,
often,
so I asked his ghost to converse,
in an easy sort of way,
of what was,
and perhaps, what will be.

He sat, silently, almost
broodingly, his hooded brows over
dark eyes, his blood conveying
silent thoughts that only my Quill
could hear…

and then Quill spilled, like tears,
Rainer’s psyche into my soul…

Of all that has always been,
inside my mind
that aches to be released,
the knowledge that what lines unleashed
are never enough,

that a poet never says, this is adequate,
but reaches once again
for the unsayable
to find a way
to verse it just so…

that a poet experiments with all feelings,
in all writings,
in all ways
with every breath…

and he transmits
that a poet does not, no, never does
he, no, not once

stop writing,
for to do so, would be to
give up on light,
and feathers, it would be to
quit believing
in awe-inspirational shadows
that speak
to poets

in the quiet
through their quill
to their soul

or that shadows believe
in the unsayable.

A fellow Passions Poet recently commented by way of compliment that a poetic offering of mine reminded him of Rainer Maria Rilke.  Having never heard of Rilke, I found myself upon a marvelous journey of research on this amazing poet.  Because of the poet’s remarks, I refrained from reading “Letters to a Poet”.  After I finished my five part series Excerpts from "To a Poet" [which can now be seen in whole in Critical Analysis, and commented upon accordingly], I then read all of Rilke’s letters found upon the Internet.  I will now use them as reference materials for when my muse visits others, and leaves me vacant.

For those of you who have not read Rilke, you are in for a treat.  For those of you who know him through his writings, I hope you feel I have done him a little justice.  For the poet who blessed me with his kind remarks, I thank you, and owe you…immeasurably.  I do not know that I will ever be able to repay you, but if some day I should find a way to do so, please know, I will.

Ahhh Haaaa Sunshine, gotcha!!

So that's what it's all about..!

I happen to love Rilke, have done for a while.  I have been reading Robert Bly's Selected poems of Rainer Maria Rilke only last week..... wonderful!

Did you know what a horrid mother he had?  She wanted a girl not a boy and insisted in dressing him as such and called him Maria!

Anyway, interesting poem.

O hour of my muse: why do you leave me,
Wounding me by the wingbeats of your flight?
Alone: what shall I use my mouth to utter?

How shall I pass my days? And how my nights?

I have no one to love. I have no home.
There is no center to sustain my life.
All things to which I give myself grow rich
and leave me spent, impoverished, alone.

(quote of Rainer Maria Rilke)

Sun,  thank you for the exposure to yet
another brilliant Poet....

If but once the quill
of worn and weary soul convey..

the words of mortal and modest man
who wishes but once to be...

called a poet....

Thanx Sun...this is a pleasure read,  you
and he both...

See what you have done to me.....

I sit...with mist filled eyes...
With tingles coursing one’s spine...
With lust and desire, a raging fire
as black ink boils within the well..
Waiting.....waiting to be free..

Let out the beating flesh filled quill of hand...
Steady the tremors of anxiousness..
Quell the fear to fail, for failure can not be.
A poet waits to be...to hear the word....
To feel......the feel of a poet......

You are as blessed as Rainer himself in that you give the quill a life of its own.  Nicely done.

"Go into yourself. Search for the reason that bids you write; find out whether it is spreading out its roots in the deepest places of your heart, acknowledge to yourself whether you would have to die if it were denied you write. This above all- ask yourself in the stillest hour of your night; must I write?........if you may meet this earnest question with a strong and simple "I must," then build your life according to this necessity;........Then try, like some first human being, to say what you see and experience and Love and lose."
          "Letters To A Young Poet"
            Ranier Maria Rilke

The temptation is to reprint the entire 123 pages here. You do all a favor in passing this blessing along and show your own wisdom in being open and hungry for it, but then we must eh?

We must write because we've no other choice, for a poet to not write would surely mean their death in part...for their words give life

Karilea~
This is a breathtaking and powerful write, my friend.
I found myself in awe as I read and this spoke to me
in a way that I cannot put into words.
Simply put...I needed to read this tonight.
I'm so glad you shared it.
Hugs to you,
~Vicky

Exquisite, especially:

but reaches once again
                       for the unsayable
                       to find a way
                       to verse it just so…

that a poet does not, no, never does
                       he, no, not once

                       stop writing,
for to do so, would be to
                       give up on light,
                       and feathers,

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
