Only Then

Before the peace of temperate hours
When inspiration’s petal flowers
In glowing of a twilight star
Unfolding heart from gleams afar

Before I bathe my soul to meld
In pools of thoughts I’ve long withheld
Before I wrest a spectrum’s yield
From autumn’s eye to paper field

Before the fall of evening mist
Before a notion feels the kiss
Of feather dipping to extract
Words still dissolved in liquid black

Before I take my poet pen
I bid the day a happy end
And only then are flowers grown
When I’m at peace and all alone

Your evenings
are my early mornings...
quiet...dawn bidding me rise...
and shine...
but I do enjoy
the evening's unfolding of you...

To sleep & dream of places & things of another world and wake in time to write them in rhyme. Wonderful.

Elizabeth,
That's when I write too. Sweet write it is. Nicely done again.

I read in your reply to Sunshine that you like to write in the middle of the night---I do as well. I suppose I find that I am more alone with my thoughts and there are less distractions---but my poems don't come out quite as well as yours do!

What a talented writer you are!
