You crept up on me like the coming of the dawn.
Your friendship took me by surprise.
My life was totally dark
until brightened by your sunrise.
I did not hear you coming.
you made not the faintest sound.
It wasn't until you were upon me
that I noticed you were around.
Yet little by little, day by day,
you wound deeper into me.
I didn't notice this subtle change,
or what it would come to be.
Yet one day I woke up to find
that you were there for me,
whether we were feeling down
or just hanging out watching t.v..

Yet another dawn came to pass,
just a quitely as before,
yet this one wasn't friendship
it was something more.
I didn't notice it's rise either
as the sun took flight.
It took me time to notice
long past its first light.
I didn't notice the change in feelings
for my mind was all askew
but I understand what happened now.
I fell in love with you.

I love everything about you,
I hold it all so dear,
from the way you fix your hair
to the cuteness of your rear.
I love the way you giggle,
that innocent "hehe",
and I long to hear you say it
to an intolerable degree.
I love your eyes,
the way the shine like sapphires,
and to be without them
would be like burning in hell's fires.

I envy the wind that runs through your hair,
that brushes along your face.
I long to do as the wind does
and to be caught in your embrace.
I want to hold you tight,
close by to my heart,
and never have to feel the pain
of us being apart.
I pine for the sweet scent
that follows you everywhere
and it's by this saccharine annoncement
that I know you're truly there.

You think this must be false,
that this couldn't be you.
You have to many faults
for all this to be true.
You have your weaknesses,
that much is valid,
but if they mounted to anything
would I be writing you this ballad?
I love you not in spite of your defects,
as so many might believe,
but all the more because of them,
to believe less is naive.

Yet you belong to another.
Life is just not fair
and by my own admission,
you make a lovely pair.
To see you together is torture,
the pain is much too deep.
It follows me during the day
and haunts me when I sleep.
Yet there's nothing I can do.
I can only look on from afar
and admire you much like
one admires a star.

You are very much my star.
You guide me when times are tough.
Yet much like the stars
you aren't close enough.
As a star you're never near enough,
though pretty you may be.
To glimpse your full beauty,
you have to be closer to me.
I search across the heavens
to find you in the night
but I'd rather have you greet me
at each dawn's first light.
I wish you'd be my sun
and bathe me in your rays
than be my little star
for ever and always.

I love you,
those words I wish I could say,
while holding you in my arms,
and have you never go away.
You mean much to me,
in all that you do.
I never want to be alone,
which is to be without you.
Suns and stars,
the differences are few.
Whichever you wish to be
I will still love you.
I wrote this for my best friend who I realized I had feelings for too late.  I am afraid that while the message was clear to me while writing it, it may not have come out completely clear on all points.
