Etched in the illusion of time

0 posted 2003-07-19 06:24 PM

*I just got back from the beach   *

Eyes wide open
Knowing the dawn will draw near
though favoring sleep

How is it that I can feel the ocean in my dreams
Pounding
It is part of me now

Such familiarity
So unreal
Its cadence echoes through my soul

Once I was part of the tides
Woven 'tween their ebb and flow
Content
Guarding my heart amidst tiny sunlit flames

(But like a piece of driftwood, the current caught me in my songs
[Washing me ashore])

Exposed
(As the water receded from the strand)

Low tide cradled me as the earth clung to my auburn hair
I am unraveled

Memory...

Something is still lingering in the sea
(My shattered muse)
But to reclaim it,
why?

One last day am I to dwell within oceanic paradise
One more hour
One more day
'Til sunset bids me leave

Oh, to answer that beckoning of me by my archaic name!

(I will go)

And the way my feet bleed into sand
How my voice sounds 'gainst the roaring and churning of lifeless waves
It is home

Home like the driftwood lying on the ground
(Forgotten and lost)
My fingers can feel its story through each smoothened curve
Clutching this remnant to my chest
I now know how to say farewell to the ocean
And I will remember how it is to sleep
In eternity
With eyes wide open to the world

For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch,
And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss.--"Romeo and Juliet"

isn't it so calming! I love the ocean so much. I always feel so inspired and exelerated when I'm in it. But for some reason I can't seem to write anything, I tried last time I was on the beach, I think I am just in such a calm state that I can't write, strange really. I'm done blabbering I think. I loved this piece, really beautiful. Brought back pretty memories..

What a nice piece. I know it's a cliche, but the imagery was very strong, and the use of Brackets (I belive the proper name is paranthesis or something equally hard to spell) added a sort of undertone to the poem. Nice write!

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. The feeling of it all was very soothing. Anyhoo, have a spiffy day!
