A Girl Overlooked
She sat in a corner, as everybody passed her by.
Nobody cared what she was going through, and nobody knew why.
Her tear stained face, was overlooked and tossed aside.
Nobody saw her pain, nobody saw her cry.

She was asked to a dance, about a month ago.
She said yes, as she turned to go.
She was ecstatic that somebody was interested in her.
The night of the dance she was dressed up, and wrapped in fur.

Nobody knew, not even her, what would happen that night.
He picked her up, leaving her parents' fight.
She was nicely dressed and ready for some fun
They left the dance, but the night had just begun.

He took her behind a run down old shack.
Too caught up in the moment to turn back,
She knew what was going to happen,
She licked her lips, as they started to chappen.

She didn't know how far it would go,
They started to kiss, letting their feelings show.
He unclipped her bra, and let it slide down.
She stepped away, scared, and alone.

She tried to run, tried to hide,
Which way to go, she was to slow to decide.
He chased after her, and pushed her to the floor,
Wouldn't let her up, until he heard the words "MORE"

But those words wouldn't come from her small, fragile lips,
She was too frightened to move, screamed NO, but he had a hold of her hips.
Her tear stained face, is ignored, and passed by,
As if she was an annoying, buzzing fly.

Nobody knows what is wrong, and nobody cares,
Too busy to notice other peoples affairs
To stuck up to help a fragile soul, to scared to be alone
Showing emotions, they don't know show.

hat girl you see on the street, what if she was you
If you were her, what would you do?
Would you keep it all in, and let yourself be ignored,
Or would you make him get what he deserved?

She is pregnant, at the age of fourteen,
Mad at herself, for not being able to see.
Is it too late to think about that?
She's already showing, or is it just fat?

hey don't care, so why should she go on with life?
Why shouldn't she die? Get rid of her strife.
Just another girl off the streets, another statistic,
But she doesn't want them to win, it just isn't it!

She gets up from where she was kneeling
Walking around, watching other teenagers living life freely,
Little kids, with their moms, and knowing, she wasn't alone
In having a child, made her go back home.

This is a very well written poem, Kay. It's admirable that you desire to write about important, relavant issues for today's teenagers. It's hard to take issues such as abuse, sex, and teen pregnancy, and write about them in a way that isn't glorification or naivete or a blase attitude, or a mix of the three. While at times a bit extreme in it's written violence, it is well written. Welcome to pip, Kay.
