Only 16

Torn and conflicted,
a girl stands alone at her sink.
The answer just moments away.

She walks her own prelaid footsteps,
awaiting what is to be a turning point in her life.
Tears fill her eyes
as the answer lay before her...
pregnant at 16.

It seemed just days before
she was a normal girl,
laughing and having fun with her friend.
Enjoying her youth
and company of her boyfriend.

She's active in school events
and an honor role student.
No one could see her other side;
the side that she hid all to well.

The girl that would sneek out at night
and party with her friends.
The girl that felt no one could relate to or understand her.
The girl that was tricked into thinking that
love was derived from sex.

Something too often confused by the young.
The girl who is now alone...
pregnant at 16.

I know that you didn't have a particular person of subject for this piece, which makes it quite interesting that you chose it as subject...I suppose for not being a pregnant 16 year old girl...or even a girl at all...or 16...you captured the essense quite well...good stuff.

Be it in the truest form, or a desperate lack thereof, fail not to understand that the inspiration is love.

My sister is only 16, and every day I pray that she is smarter than that....it is a really real problem today. Nice work.

Very strong poem,
it's so sad that this kind of thing really happens.
Well done!

I can relate to this amazingly well, except thankfully I'm not pregnant at 16.  I've had so many friends who have gotten pregnant at 16 and some who freaked out because they thought they might be.  And it's even a bit odd that you should choose to write about it considering you're a guy.  But you did a good job of it.

yes an odd subject considering your sex but I like this side that you captured well:

"No one could see her other side;
the side that she hid all to well.

The girl that would sneek out at night
and party with her friends.
The girl that felt no one could relate to or understand her.
The girl that was tricked into thinking that
love was derived from sex."

well done...
