I see a shadow in your eyes
Of what used to be,
When everything you told were lies
Laced with false dreams and misery,

And I prayed to the skies,
That some day you’d see,
You were never really all that wise,
Just a pretender in disguise

And maybe it’s the weather,
Or maybe you’re just cold,
Your soul was as pure as your heart is black,
And once you’re gone, there’s no looking back

You were still no better off than you were once before,
Just curled up and left for a mess,
Never just another tile on my floor,
You were more than my damsel in distress.

But now that I know you,
I must confess,
You were never really the best,
Just more naïve than the rest

And maybe I shouldn’t have tried,
Or were you just completely dead inside?
Your life is as sad as your lies were bad,
But through it all, you were still the best I ever had
