floating down a river...

We used to drink your poison together in the middle of abandoned summer streets,
Stay up through the night and watch the street lights go out.
And I'd turn and look at you: "Are you sure this is poison? Because, I swear, I feel like I could live forever."
You'd take one last sip and throw your bottle at the sky,
And whisper something in my ear that I could never really make out,
It was something about not wanting this night to ever end.
And then I'd laugh and tell you it already had.
Couldn't you see the sunrise?
Couldn't you see how pink the sky was?
You told me it matched the color of my cheeks after you kissed me.
And when we drank the last bottle on the last day of August and you kissed me one last time,
My cheeks turned pink but the sky refused.
It rained on the first day of September.
The first day I ever drank alone,
Only this poison doesn't make me feel like I could live forever,
I think it was probably just you all along.

I have never read a poem like this in my life! It was stunning! I love the reference to poison but meaning it in a good way a twist that I never would have saw. I like the flow of the poem as well, not necessarily a rhyme scheme but it was wonderful none the less. Very well written!!

People always ask me why I don't look toward my future I tell them to many interesting things are happening today.
