My best friend in the whole world's dad is On the Abraham Lincoln, the navy ship that got turned around and sent back to the gulf when it was only two weeks away from getting home. This was her dad's last time serving on a ship and he has already been gone 6 1/2 months! So she wanted to tell him how much she prayed for his saftey and wished for his quick return so I wrote this for her to give to him.

Before I went to bed tonight
I wished upon a star
I told him to look after you
No matter where you are

I told him I was thinking of you
although your far away
And I asked him to keep you safe
So that you can come back to me someday

I told him I really love you
And yes my dear it's true
I pleaded him to watch over you
'till the day dawns bright and new

I told him all about you
and how amazing you are
And hoped that we were wishing
On the same bright star

I said that when you hold me
all my troubles fade away
And I begged him to keep you in safety
untill your home to stay

I talked about your courage
I told him about your might
Andwished for him to protect you
all throughout the night

So starlight, starbright
It's my daddy's face I see tonight
So I wish I may, I wish I might
Have the wish I wished tonight

I know that the last stanza is off of a cliche but her and her dad used to always wish upon the stars so I thought it was appropriate, and to all of you that have someone specail away fighting all my hope and support and love goes out to you!

Thanks for the comments guys! I gave the poem to my friend yesterday so she's emailing it to her dad tonight, she really like the things that I said so I hope that he likes it to. Having a parent away from home for long periods of time when your close is always hard..But such is life right??

Bella~
Wow...this is such a beautiful and heartfelt write.
Your friend is very fortunate to have a friend
such as you, and I'm sure she appreciated this very much.
This touched me deeply...nicely done.
