In an upside-down garden

0 posted 2002-12-10 11:41 AM

She has stumbled to a place
where adequacy in inadequate,
the sky is purple and green
raspberries taste like......
         strawberries.

She lets the juice dribble down
swallowing the happiness
and laughing

He told her she was special
she was meant to be made....
what was the word?
happy?
what is happy?

she deserves to be treated
like a........princess

It seems now that her world
is set on making sure
another tear never falls
from her deep brown eyes

so they give her everything.

The least they ever gave her
was the most she ever had
and she apologizes for
crying on the carpet,
her teardrops left imprints
in the sand.

the world's getting in her way

again

she mixes the happiness and hatred
and drinks it like rum and coke.
they say she shouldn't be afraid
she can come out of her shell again
but she's locked them out
and thrown away the key,
sadness and despair
have found their hands full
of her soul.

She never wanted to be special.

Can't depend on others for happiness
she spins and falls
hitting the rock hard ground
impact leaving scratches
blood dripping from her mouth
and she smiles through the tears.

She isn't meant to be made happy

she isn't meant to be wonderful

isn't meant to whisper to herself
late at night while she clings
desperately to her teddy bear
and wonders about the strange things.

The voices are back again
stuck on repeat and saying
"You are special, you are special"
but at least it's better than the alternative...
"paint the kitchen red, my dear,
you will make me very happy".

She mumbles in her sleep
wishing to be pinched,
to wake up from the dream
all that is haunting her is still trapped
inside of her mind.

she never wanted to be special.

"Wie ein Quadrat in einem Kreis, eck' ich immer wieder an obwohl ich doch schon lange weiß, daß ich niemals ändern kann." ~Wizo

You are a very talented story-teller. Thank you.

Kielo

I know only one thing, and that thing is that I know nothing.
