Atavism

Give me free speech,
Give me taxes to pay,
Take me at my word,
Turf me out when you can,
Easy enough to say,
But harder to pay.

Over inflate me,
And I will rise,
Puncture my pride,
Then throw me aside,
Man with a throne,
Like a dog and his bone,
A stitch in time,
Saves nine crowns.

Let the fabric slack,
Roll back,
Bounce up,
And slow down,
Shut up!
Enough punctuation for now.

This is time to drown,
Your cautionary tales,
In whatever you can,
To shut me up,
Because I talk too much.

It is nothing to do with me,
Shell I am and here I will be,
Swear I am me?
Diagnosis shall see,
Broken and backwards,
Fallen and lacklustre,
Catch my harness,
Before I let you down.

woah, I really liked this one. the rhyming was awesome, so was the imagery. good job.

Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy.

LTEvans~
This is quite a powerful piece.
I couldn't help but 'hear' the voice behind the words.
Very nicely done.
