I have an older sister.
18.
Pretty, smart, athletic
Everything I want to be
Prom queen. Great relationships.
And there is me.
An original.

Creaive, smart
funny and talented.
In useless areas.
And dieing to be
Whats that word?
Popular

I have so many friends
but they take advantage of me
Everyone is so two sided
Only do what's in,
Dress the same. Keep up with the styles
I don't need to sink low enough that I am mean to people to make myself feel beter
But if I could choose anything to protect myself,
it would be armor against words

They say it gets better.
They say a lot of stuff.
They say my sister was a weirdo in middle school.
That popularity ends in high school.
That people start to see who you are.
That 8th grade is the worst year

If I live through this year of deseption
And lies and fake people
Then I could survive an earthquake.
Let me live, please let me
for once be
popular.

i know how this feels, i have an older sis thats like so pretty and near-perfect, i cant even hate her because she's my bestfriend, it just sucks sometimes when all the guys go for her and ignore me, she's popular and really smart while im into art, music and poetry, i guess things are better now im in college, im in the popular crowd ok so trust me you're not missing anything. atleast you dont have to try to be perfect all the time and i dont really have "real" friends, just superficial ones, trust me, it has its pluses but then again...its not worth it

I used to worry about popularity, too... then I just stopped worrying and started being a loner who doesn't confine himself to social standards.  I started to really stick out, eventually, and people actually started hanging out with me.  The neat thing is that I met so many really cool, individualistic people that I formed a small but strong circle with these people.

Lately it's wearing off, we've graduated and don't see each other anymore.  It's alright though.

Just some advice... stop caring about what other people think of you, and just be yourself, and be proud of it.  Strut to the cafeteria every day and eat your lunch alone, because nobody's quite like you, and that's why nobody is good enough to sit with you.

Who knows, you might just find that the people really worth being friends with start to take notice of you.

Oh, and welcome to Teen Poetry, Wind.  I liked this poem quite a bit, and I hope you make a home for yourself in this forum.     It's a bit slower than Open so you'll find that your poetry doesn't sink quite so quickly (as you were complaining in Feelings).

Stick around, you might like it here.

Maybe this is just my school, but has anyone else noticed that the most popular people are often the most annoying?
Anyways, the poem.
It's a good poem, but I think it would also make a great piece of prose. However, I liked the way you expressed your feelings. Nice one

We've all been there. When I was in 6th grade I didn't know a soul. When I finally reached the 7th grade, a bunch of kids that were in my class the year prior asked me if I was a new kid. That kind of bothered me. I was there a whole year and still people didn't know me.......and my  grade only had around 90 kids in it haha.

Now, all that has changed. My "social status" grew from my being a nice guy. if you care that  much about image you're not going to get anywhere except for a place you don't want to be. You might even turn out to be one of those fake people you hate.
So just be cool within yourself, and others will see that.

PS: 8th grade isn't the worst....11th is

why on earth would you want to be prom queen?

their lives die at twenty four and they become mindless, walking, talking, eating, breeding machines destined to drive aimlessly around in their suv's and make rice krispie cake at eleven o'clock at night.

not a life i want.

do you?

be glad you're you.  intelligence is key to survival in this world.
