The People of Tomorrow

We are the future,
the people of tomorrow.
So a moment of time,
could we please borrow?

We’re the future leaders,
your only hope,
but with this dark world,
we barely can cope.

Childhood used to be
the best years of life.
It is no longer,
because of hate and strife.

All that we ask
is one simple thing.
To answer the phone
on that second ring.

To listen to us
as we listen to you.
To listen to our problems,
we have them too.

Life is no longer fun and games.
Of this fact we know.
We’ve had our share of problems.
Even if it doesn’t show.

Children are dying,
schools are violent,
and people ask why.
The parents are silent.

The children are hurting.
They want to stop this riot.
They ask what to do.
The parents are quiet.

They ask for answers.
Their questions go on,
and what of the parents.
The parents are gone.

Forced to find answers.
What can they do?
They turn on the T.V.
in the absence of you.

There they see violence.
Well, maybe that’s it.
Now they beat up their brother,
and the parents have a fit.

The parents take away the T.V.
“No video games for you.”
They’re locked in their room.
Now what can they do?

The kids listen to music.
Now there is the answer.
They learn it’s not radiation,
but parents that cause cancer.

Now they hate everyone,
and stay in their room.
Locked in their own little world.
That is their doom.

Now it is over.
They commit suicide.
Now from everyone
it’s easy to hide.

No more parents
that are never there.
No more teachers
who really don’t care.

More people are lost,
as our children die,
and you have the nerve,
the guts to ask why.

I fear for our future,
as I look at our past.
With morals declining
I fear we wont last.

If the parents don’t care,
then why should the kids.
The parents are busy at a charity auction
placing their bids.

Before you look to others,
to do your good deed.
Look to your family.
It’s love your kids need.

So the next time a child
turns to violence,
realize it’s because
of your silence.

The next time there is
a school riot.
It’s simply because
the parents are quiet.

We are the future,
the people of tomorrow.
So a little of your time
could we please borrow?
