It's my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary.
I smile and congratulate them
(How the hell did she put up with him for 50 years? I'd rather eat my own leg!)

We go out for a fancy meal in a beautiful restaurant.
I choose the duck.
(Why does everything in here come in tiny portions with beautifully arranged lettuce leaves? I'd rather have a proper meal.)

We go back to my aunt's house and crack open the champagne.
I manage to down two glasses, then move on to the wine.
(This stuff tastes like toilet cleaner. Mind you, it's the only way to escape this bunch of apes without leaving the room.)

Now they're on to their favourite game; "Embarassing the grandchildren".
"Do you have a boyfriend yet?" they slur.
(I've been trying to avoid thinking about that very subject. If only you knew.)

Now they actually think that they're funny. Mum gives a high-pitched laugh at every bad joke she tells.
Jesus, they must have drank a lot.
(I wonder if they're actually listening to each other?)

This is getting way too pointless for my liking, seeing the people I might evolve into one day.
I go to bed.
(And not a moment too soon, might I add.)

In the beginning, the Universe was made. This has angered a lot of people and has been widely regarded as a bad move- Douglas Adams

I HATE FAMILY "GET-TOGETHERS"!  LOL...
I know the feeling Oh so well...
Great poem!

After Love comes Pain, then Love, Then Pain, then Love, then Pain..... does anyone else see a pattern here?  Oh well, can't say it's not worth it.

Agreed.  Family get-togethers are really difficult.

Luckily, I'm the family embarassment, so I'm not invited upstairs for family dinners or anything.  I sneak up and grab leftovers after everyone has gone home.

It's pretty sweet.

I sympathize with you completely, I cannot stand my own family.
