In an upside-down garden

A blackened wick is what remains
Half burnt people don't survive
The aftermath of the flames
Left me scorched and thirsting
For the touch of your tongue.

Candle wax encrusted hands
Blackened string and ashen
Lips kiss and make better
All of the wrongs of what
Remains of the world.

Would you jump into the fire
Sacrifice your soul to save my own
Fade to black and disappear
The clouds are gone, the sky is clear
And I cannot say thank you.

Never sacrifice yourself for me
Do not bare my cross for me
Please, you cannot stop your life for me
it is not your own to take
Unless you take me too.

And a blackened wick is what remains
A telltale sign of life once living
A reminder of a love, strong,
Broken hearts
And understanding.

Beautifully written.  Strong, dark imagery; and very deep sentiments.

What more can I say?  This is just the caliber I expect from you.

Another masterful work.
