My knee operation
Wednesday, September 9 2002

Half past seven early morn I had to be in hospital
Took a shower and my crutches, looked around, I got it all
They would operate me early, but forgot to check my heart
Being there last week for checkups, I don't think that's really smart

When they checked, it wasn't my heart and I told those nurses there
I changed hearts in Tampa's villa, lots of poets there to share
I gave each a piece of mine and got one back to hold on tight
So take a peek and you will see, it is bouncing quite alright

Then at ten they took me over to this operating room
Got all tubes attached upon me, had to do that I presume
Said 'goodbye' and 'see you later' when they put this cap on me
And went off to roam the unknown, where the dreams are born you see

First thing I heard when awak'ning 'Hey you, don't get up my dear
So I layed back and waited for a long day to come I feared
I was hungry, could eat a horse, as they say in my home town
First drink I got was 3.00 pm and slowly swallowed it down

At 5.00 pm the doctor came and said he clipped my kneecap
It looked smooth and neat again, they'd put it in an icy wrap
I went home and here I am, still feeling drugged and sleepy
I'd better go to bed my friends, tomorrow you will see me

The cartilage of my knee isn't good they said and they want me on this program where they give shots in my knee and this stuff will make the cartilage grow again. I'll hear all about that in three weeks when I have to go back for checkup.
I don't have too much pain, so all went well.

Titia, I'm so glad that you came through your knee surgery okay. I've been thinking about you. I hope that it heals well. You did a wonderful job telling about the hospital. Hope you're better real soon.

I'm glad it all went well, Titia... and thank you so much for sharing your dear heart and lovely photos... one of which is featured in the poem I posted tonight.
We got home around midnight on Sunday night and then had to leave for Ann Arbor at 9 the next morning for my first radiation treatment, so our car isn't even unpacked just yet...
I'll have the radiation every weekday until Oct. 25.... hopefully, by then, David will get the car unpacked....
BTW... I brought a piece of everyone's heart to radiation with me... I hope you all don't mind

I love the way you borrowed a piece of everyone's heart to carry home. You no doubt left a bit of yours behind with each them, as you do with the rest of us here. I will say my most powerful healing mantra for you, dearest Dutchie.
