somebody's dungeon

The box of my dreams is lost.
I placed it, I remember
under the bed of my youth,
and told myself never,
ever to forget it.
Yet when I look today,
under and around,
all I find is dust
that I cannot hold
in my hand.

I called Dad on the phone
and asked,
as polite as I could
if he'd seen this box,
under my bed
when our house
was packed and all memories
stuffed in boxes to be
sorted and separated
in the divorce
and he thought me
quite insane.

Mom says she recalls
some small trinket
perhaps, amongst
the important of things
yet she found it lacking any
and probably threw it away.

How odd this. Dreams.
Not important enough to save.
Easily tossed
along with all the other
unimportant "trinkets"
of the only daughter
the union produced.

But then again,
not odd really
that she should
trash my dreams.
I'm sure when she saw them
she called Dad
and spoke of them, and
they simply decided
the dreams of a child
with her head in the clouds
and her hands forever trembling
were not worth saving.

Very heartfelt write. I am going back to read it again. Chris

Boxes and books are never safe. The best place is our hearts of course (even if that sounds very cliche.lol) Good read.

How you touched me, and I'm sure many others, with the depth of this write. Poignant, and clear was the vision of your loss.  Somehow, we become so inadequate in the face of such treasures as dreams...and as parents we sometimes forget that the small of the child holds the large of the life. Best Regards Always. Well done.

Very well-written.
Identified and felt the emotion.
I like the insight into the parents.
Very perceptive!
Thanks for sharing!

Aw, bless you. True, a lot of insight. Lot of loss. Lot of good lines you wrote to touch our hearts.
I like this very much.

OOOHHHH, Whiterose. This made me want to cry with you. Have your parents read this poem? If they would, maybe they would help that little girl inside of you find her  box of lost dreams. I hope that if you can't find those particular dreams, that you have maybe found some other ones?
With Love and Best Wishes,
Ethel....garysgirl

Thank you all for your responses to my poem. You are all so kind and generous with your words. This place is a dream come true for me, so all was not lost with the box that disappeared.

I do believe,
this is one of the finest
of yours
I have read, to date...

Well done.  I know it hurt...
but still, you did it.

You should lift the chin a bit...
and be proud of your accomplishments.
