My first breath...
Yet...though life is given
It is taken....ever so many times...
Away....

Why?  Why must death come on silent
blackened feet....hiding the face of one
who reaps..yet never sows....

Lord....this messenger...walking steadily,
swinging the scythe of mortality’s demise...
A laugh only heard within one’s soul...
Reaping the fields....

Children,  Lord....mere babes, born, unborn...
growing....some smiling....some crying
tears of pain, of loneliness....

Some, blind to the earth around them....unable to
see even the light of your kingdom...
until the reaper comes....

Memories...
Thousands of tears....the sobs of the mother’s...
the moan of fathers....crying children...
asking why....Why must we be placed on
this earth....to see those we love, those
who have held us, our hand....Have taken us
and comforted us....
                         To see them die....

If not for the warmth given, the smiles seen...the touch
shared...the spoken words heard.....If not for these,
for the memories of all we have had.....

If not for them....I would curse the night to day...
Till my last breath comes...and passes...
As the reaper reaps....and...

my stalk falls silently into the pile of chaff
sorted from the living wheat of our world..
That more grain might grow...and feed
the living world....

The poet sees beyond the question to the answer withheld...intended to be a mystery to man. Well done Barry. ThisDiamond

(sigh) Yes, may the fields of wheat grow fruitful and may the barley remain not as the ale many men quench unknowingly but rather basked in the afterglow of life! (big hugggssssss) This is excellent, sweet friend, your wonderful poems always paint Rembrandt-esque images in my mind, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Barry, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Dark tones, on a bleak landscape, yet somehow enjoying the pale warm sunlight of memories. Well done, dear poet.

Barry,
Sin isn't fair. But, God got even. Grace isn't fair either. lwc

Excellent write by the way. Sooner or later we all know this feeling.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Very, very well written Barry.....as is everything of yours I have read. Yes, we all will, or have experienced this at some point in our lives. Thanks for sharing again. I look forward to more of your work.
