Sleepless in Arizona
By Larry Chadwick
It finds you in places you least expect.

I  find no rest without you,
While you sleep so peacefully.
I face the day with courage,
But the nights are hard for me.

Your pictures bring me smiles,
And thoughts of you are sweet.
But darkness makes me lonely,
And I cannot go to sleep.

So I stay up late for comfort,
And wait for sleep to come.
I read and write my poetry,
And think of all we’ve done.

But still my eyes won’t sleep,
It would be nice to slumber some.
Though rest was never easy,
Now it’s downright troublesome.

I’ve made my peace and said goodbye,
And let you go your way.
But night time comes,
And it’s different than the day.

Please pardon me if I look tired,
The hardest part is when the day is done.
I mean you no disrespect,
It’s just that I miss you dear, a T-O-N.

Larry~
The title, understandably, got my attention,
and then your words reached in and got my
heart and refused to let go.
My heart goes out to you, my friend.
I'll be praying for a peaceful night's sleep for you.
God bless you and yours.
Hugs,
~Vicky

Sometimes the thoughts and memories are just to powerful for sleep to invade, and understandably so. And up there somewhere, Ginger’s saying…come on Pop’s, get some sleep…you know you need the beauty sleep!!!         (just kidding about that last bit Larry!! Lol)

If I was truly a poet...I could write a lullaby that would allow us all to sleep thru those long nights...but there is a silver lining in that insomnia cloud...I've seen some of the best poetry come from those sleepless hours...Light a "good talking candle" and let the ink speak.

Larry

~
Your angel is still by your side.
She has just taken a different form--
a form that one day you will have also.
The love you have for each other
transcends all time and all space.
It is for eternity.
~

This poem was so well written that it literally caused a lump in my throat. It took a lot for me to hold back the floodgate of tears. I will send you love and peace from across these miles with the hope that it may help
--even if only in a very small way.

~ May the day of grace be upon you soon when you live in a state  of surrender, acceptance and peace ~

Sammie,
I'm sorry you know the experience too. It's no fun to be so sad. Thanks for your kind words. And welcome to Passions. Hope you like it as much as I have. My great grandfather came from Redruth England.

Tara,
I was born an insomniac. No Health Insurance and no sleeping pills. Two deaths don't help my sleeping problems so thought I'd write about it. Thanks for the hugs too.

gg,
I hope so too! Thanks for your kind words. And welcome to Passions. I really hope you enjoy it here like I have.

Vicky,
Aw, thank you so much. It is indeed appreciated.

Tracey,
You do know how to use your sense of humor well! Thanks. And you're probably right.

JM,
Well I don't think that is the actual qualifier! 'Cause I know you are a true poet. But if you could do that...you'd be rich! And always I appreciate your thoughts and support.

Noah,
You never fail me. I like that. Thanks.

Linda,
Thank you for such incredible support. I am overwhelmed by your caring. It means so very much. I have no problem accepting it's just that I am inexperienced at what to do with the absence.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

I didn't know you lived in Arizona, I'm in Tucson at the present time on a job. Where do you live?

I know how you feel. I know that it isn't always easy. But you will make it through. She is hovering over you and blessing your life each day.

I would like to pray for you if you do not mind.

Father, Lift up Larry to be blessed by you. Lord, Enter his life and erase the pain from his heart. Father God, Let him have peace in his heart. allow him to take each day as gracefully and happily as it should. Father, heal the holes in his heart with you presence. Show him the way. Lord, Heal Larry's heart. Keep Larry healthy Lord, Bless him and his family. And we all say Amen!

Love you Larry

My heart goes out to you Larry. I wish there were more one could say, but for once I am at a loss for words. Just know that I truly believe the ones we've lost watch over us, waking or sleeping. True love never dies..it lives on inside us forever. God be with you.

Chris,
A lot of sleep is not anything I was ever blessed with. But... it would be nice. Thank you so much.

Lauren,
Too many know that ache and I am sorry you are one. Thank you for your faithfulness. Seems you and I are tooooo busy these days. Miss ya'.
Thanks Bill! Chandler. In Phoenix that is considered north Tucson. We should get together. How long are you here for?

You know Larry I think that is why so many songs are written about those long, lonely nights, as I too feel my losses more at night when it is quieter and we have time to reflect.  Or...it is God's way of keeping our loved ones memory alive perhaps, but it is bittersweet isn't it.  I understand your poem all to well, and I don't have to tell you that only time will find a comfortable space for this hurt, so it is manageable, but for now you sure do have your poetry and us too

Oh Larry,  this past year has been so hard for you and now the loneliness sets in at night. Life is not fair my friend. On those nights when sleep is no where to be found, I hope you can get up and write and that will help you get your feelings out.

You remain in my prayers.

Hugs, Marti

I know what you mean. Out of nowhere in the middle of the night I'll start thinking of my Dad. I feel for you, and your poetry shows your hurt.

Thanks for your welcome to Passions In Poetry. I really love this sight and all of you seem such nice people with great big hearts. I'm sorry about your loss, but I'm sure that you have many good memories and lots of friends to help you through these terribly lonely times. I lost my husband five years ago. I'm very thankful for the good memories I have of him. I'm also thankful for my Gary, who has helped me through many, many lonely times. Good luck to you and may God bless you. Love, Ethel

Susan,
Sorry 'bout that! But I am glad you care so much. It means a lot to me. In ways you'll never know.

Sharon,
It is so comforting to have your friendship to lean on.

You're the best. Thank you.

Marti,
Well...I write until I fall asleep at the puter! But at least I don't lay in bed fussing. Ain't writing grand? Thank you so much Marti.

Nan,
Yup...you do know. Sorry! But if it didn't hurt it would be worse. Thanks Nan.

Ethel,
I can't imagine losing a spouse. I'm so sorry. How wonderful that you have Gary. And I truly am glad you are here!

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
