After visiting the SRF meditation Gardens in Encinitas, CA

Garden Meditations

from our shadows
camera draws five koi
to pond's limits.

star marks the spot
where wisdom still lives -
swami point.

far below
roar and tumble of the tide
surfers' delight

above the beach
pine trees twist to reach
over peaceful ponds.

in this holy place
even time stops to listen
urges me to breathe.

overgrown cattails
reach across the garden path
toward setting sun -
he stops to wonder,then steps
gently through their patterns.

soft garden silence
then sudden rush of water -
I hear phantom bells.

This kind of laps towards us, alternating between gentle and a distant drumming. Enjoyed.

Beki--

Reading your poem was like a form of meditation. I was totally absorbed in the moment.

P.S. I have attended SRF workshops and seminars here in the Toronto area.

Wow...

Did I really just read those words?
An ocean.
And a garden.

As someone who lives and breathes gardening, I just loved this. I may never actually get to this place, but thank you for taking me there in my imagination.

'... in this holy place

urges me to breathe...'

Wonderful descriptions throughout.

Hugs, Marti

I have always loved Japanese gardens.I love the way the sand is raked in sensual patterns around ancient rocks. There is a timeless quality about tradition that centers the soul.

thanks so much for reading everyone. My haiku partner and i visited these amazing gardens on a pacific  ocean cliff - they belong to the self realization fellowship temple there - their founder yogananda used to have a house there on the point so the surfers for over 50 years have called it swami point. I can't wait to go back - it was, as you can see, incredibly inspiring
