               Dillon

She was fond of fabric that flowed
and she liked the wind and what it did
to dresses and her long hair,
but the boots were a matter of the cowboy in her.

She lived under the Arizona sun in a place carved into a hill.
A path mapped her way
to a land that changed
with shadow and color,

but the sky  was what she loved most.
That, and her boots.

She was a chef at a chic place
along the Coyote trail
in a city southwest of nowhere,
yet not far enough away from grease she could still smell
under the fingernails of her past.
That driveway was still scared
with the rubber she burned leaving.

The sky was a free and open space and she had driven
until she found it at its biggest.

She loved her boots
because her grandmother said
she could pick herself up by the straps of them.
She had done that going to culinary school
and earning the white hat of an artist;
placed, poured or dripped…. eatable art.

She came close to falling
for a fella with a wide brimmed hat and twinkle,
who liked the way she walked and spoke her mind,

but the sky was what she loved the most.
That,  and her boots.

(smiles) Awwwwwwww, I just love this, sweet friend, this had me picturing the free cowboy spirits of the west and wishing I could hop into some boots and shine my spurs about with my hat proud upon my head and drift away like a romantic vagabond! (kiss on cheek) This is wonderful, sweet friend, I know Ron is going to love this too, yay, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

yes..I can see this as a sister to Iambe... more refined and having a distance from her that adds an element. As usual martie..you amaze me with your talent...

like the images painted...and the person you sketch out... now..can you write about her again? ( chuckling)

I've got to go find the challenge, then I've got to make sure YOU go on vacation, because I don't think I could beat this!  Brava!

OH....

methinks I like Dillon VERY much...

I so understand about skirts and boots and leaving nothing but tire tracks on a driveway....okay, I don't drive, but I DO understand that. You must tell us more about her Martie! Wunnerful.

Dillon walked with a sway
perhaps it was the boots,
but I always liked watching her move

We had been out driving
her car
top down
when she pulled over
in the shadow of a butte
climbed out
and began walking

I don't know where she was heading
but she seemed to have purpose
I lacked
so I watched her walk
head up
hips in rythm

About an hour or so later
I saw her coming back
and reached into the cooler
fished out a cold one
and walked out to meet her

She didn't say anything much
just something about the clouds
not wanting to play today

Later
when the sun had found
its way behind the maze of
red rimmed buttes
and the stars began to sprinkle
themselves like salt
on a black tablecloth

She leaned on me
and I wished I could
be the clouds in her heart

Awesome work, Martie. I really can see this person. And making her a chef makes her all that more sensuous!

Or, as they say in Big Night:

(woman crying)
Man: What's the matter?
Woman: My mother was a TERRIBLE cook!

Hey, what do you expect after eating Timpano?

Um... I seem to have sidetracked myself.

Enjoyed!

I think you did it, Martie.  Love the name, intriqued by the woman.  More?

Im playing catch up here....I smiled as soon as I saw the title to this..and knew I was gonna love the character...a perfect counterpart for Iambe and for Ron to create his chemistry off of.
