A Close Shave

Some things should be left in privacy,
like singing in the shower,
but this poem isn’t about crooning
“Come Mr. Tally Mon, tally me banana;”
it’s about carelessness
(okay, stupidity) -
combined with
a week-long bout
of insomnia.

If you have a sensitive stomach,
STOP NOW and click
that back button!

Hey, I warned you!

It was the normal ritual,
until I stepped out of the shower,
stood in front of the mirror,
and saw blood running down one arm
and on my tummy.
I leaned closer to the mirror
and found the source:
blood was dripping from my right nipple.

Thoughts came quickly:
I’m bleeding from my nipple!
Help!
It must be cancer!
How did this happen?
Why won’t it stop?

Logic forced panic to take a backseat,
and I realized I must have grazed
my breast with the razor while shaving
my underarms. Never felt a thing.
Let me tell you, nipples bleed like a sonofabitch.

So there’s my strange tale of this morning.
Hurts, don’t it?

Ya know, they invented the safety razor way back, you might try one or even a lady shave. The thought of those 'cut-throat' razors always paints an image for me of a smile where it ain't natural to be.

I guess one becomes content with one’s poetry when one opens the book ten years hence and does NOT exclaim,
“Did I really write this?”

well on just poetry level this one certainly twists and turns, makes the reader feel a wide range of emotions. I am sorry to hear about the close shave. don't go near any sharp objects until you get some good nights sleep. Ok
well written, thanks for sharing.

well try to avoid cold showers while shaving,
or shaving in the snow, when a really cold breeze happens by, or while rubbing ice cubes all over your body (to keep kool in cali of course ... cause you never know what will pop out and get in the way.... don't ya know... lol

(chuckling)

Sorry.... I know such accidents can be painful, as I have often cut the tip of my nose while shaving...youknow getting in the big hurry and not paying attention. Your wound is a bit more "tender".... but hey you had offer to kiss the boo boo....

I've enjoyed reading all your responses so very much!

Everything is, um, all better now, thanks!

Yep, gotta pay attention when holding sharp objects! Scared the bejeezus out of me!
