My Muse
(it must be said)
does not dispel light
into offered pleasures,
a fragrance of song.

She's fine just sitting there,
pen and scissors pair,
a mad mess of ideas
taking notes and
throwing sculptures
without grace or explanation.

She is not named among the greats.
She forgets to comb her hair.
I am the right silence
to remember her by.

Calliope gives no tablets
to scribe lands I have not seen.
Clio plays no rousing call;
nor divines wreath leaves for me.
Erato plucks no arrow at me,
or a rose to give me pause.
Euterpe works no songs I find
to reconcile flaws.
Melpomene shows not her dagger;
I do not know yet how to bleed.
Terpsichore dances by
leaving florid thoughts to seed.
Thalia leaves mask unmoved;
I do not make her laugh or wonder.
Urania nurses no care
to the stars I write in ponder.
Polyhymnia stays not
my hand against the hymn of words.
And Mnemosyne never whispers
of deeds I can shape to swords.

And yet,
against all sense,
these tired dribblings
from a cracked pen
continue to stain
these sheets by drops.

That was amazing. The imagery was vivid. If this is your muse being disagreeable, I'll be very jealous if it ever decides to cooperate with you.

(chuckling) Mike you do well with the challenge... I enjoyed this. I personally composed a couple of replies to your challenge in my head..then shook it quickly so they would fall out as they were far more tired and trite than any dribblings from a cracked pan you have shared here...

Could I borrow your Muse for a bit? I'd pay her well---she'd be worth any price!

Kielo, She, not it. Thank you.

Ron, oh, I doubt anything you have to say would be trite. Tired is fine.

Julie, thank you.

Karilea, I love seeing that little jumpin' letter guy pop up.

Linda, She works for cookies! (and, apparently, when I eat lunch late!)

C'mon, baby, c'mon darling,
Let me steal this moment from you now.
C'mon, angel, c'mon, c'mon, darling,
Let's exchange the experience.

From a racked pen (Mike's challenge)

My Muses

Putricene beckons vulture and rat, to sup upon my verbage.
Saccarin hides not my bitter pense, nor sweetens any reverie.
Cadaverene wafts willfullyaround my meager writings,
gifting each with stifling stench.
Anathema makes dust, my ink; brittle straw, my quill.

ok
you win Mike
I have run out of "clever" ways of
saying:
you wraht gud

this is not only
1. a great poem
2. an apt poem
3. a learn-ed poem
but also
4. more evidence of your need to challenge yourself --- and pass with rainbows

awesome

and ED?

Hon? Yr muse sounds like me on a ditzy-creative day. Sprawled out on the floor in a pile of art supplies, more hair in my mouth and eyes than in any place it's supposed to be, way-too-baggy hair-dye stained cotton t-shirt, and old decaying jeans.

Although I don't think I work for cookies... So yr muse is cheaper than me. Though I do seem t' inspire you at least as often as she does, huh? *kiss*

I love that muses are shes, btw. Women rock! I wanna grow up to be a seductress, k? K.

your tongue's like poison
so swollen it fills up my mouth

yep, amazing stuff in this, and it's stuffed to the gills with amazing lines and images!

your cracked pen must be causing a chain reaction in all directions, resulting in an explosion of thoughts to paint rainbows of images for all to see

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Tiersdin,
Please do attempt the challenge. I'm glad you enjoyed.

Wranx,
Awww.... Y'know what? That was actually really well-written, despite yr deflatin' ego.

brian,
Thank you. And you never run out of ways
to say things in new lights.

Lorigrrl,
Yes, women do rock. And the corrolaries between my muse and you are strictly intentional. Finally,
"I wanna grow up to be a seductress."
If that's not cute enough, you then follow it
with
k?

God I missed ya!

Thank you, E.S. I appreciate yr comments.

Thanks, VAS. That's very sweet of you to say.

Sudhir, As are your poems, Sudhir. As are yours.

Thank you, Mr. Toe.
Weirder than me, eh?
I don't doubt it, strangely.
