With a booming line of bass
wind rushes through the eaves and cracks--
God's blowin' on the harp tonight--
watch this train roll down the track...

Raphael picks up the lead
bending branches in the trees
cymbals crash in lightnin' time
on a crusty old windchime

It's pretty when transformers blow
sparks of blue and then green flare
The ritual of lighting lamps
to greet the eyes of silent stare

Windows breathe at times like these--
glass bends in frames made loose.
Sheets of rain in slant of pound
cease suddenly--as if on cue.

It comes in waves--labor pains--
each contraction less forgiving
and always echoes of the thought:
"Will the levee hold the river?"

It's mother nature's blender now
at Elements' command--
when comes that thing--surprising me--
that only silence understands.

Unbolt the door so we'll feel more
balmy sweet tranquility
for there within the eye of storm--
dances serenity.

with thanks to Balladeer, who helped me with this one orginally and a note to all, that this Isidore is still a tropical storm, and more likely to give La. a good bath then anything else.

Nice poem. At least it won't be no catergory 3 hurricane. Tropical Storm is bad enough.

The only hurricane that ever reached New Hampshire was Gloria. It was still considered a hurricane, but I just remember lots of thunder and lightning and wind and rain, and the eye when you can walk outside into the musk and quiet before the storm slams through again. 1986, I think.

One time I was on the road during a tropical DEPRESSION (one grade lower than tropical storm), and it almost blew me off the road. The rain was tremendous. Like trying to drive through a slowly filling lake, under a waterfall.

Anyway, I loved this poem. Please publish. The world needs words like these.

You're talent personified.

(big hugggsssssss) Yes, I love storms so very much, I just don't like it when they cause destruction but truly storms are beautiful to me and deep within the eye of a hurricane is that surreal serenity! (sigh) Take care and stay safe today, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karen, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Wow... that was beautiful. I just enjoy sitting inside and listening to the rain beat on the roof. It rains often and hard here, so we get huge downpours a lot. I love to wake up in the middle of the night and hear the rain on the roof. I don't like getting wet.

Serenity Blaze, you have written a wonderful portrayal of a storm. One that could be used to describe many different situations. I love it!

I find this very beautiful.  You make it like a song.  I enjoyed this very much.  But still be safe.

Tsk...time for me to quit playing around...

first flash flood warning just issued, though it looks good here--and? I'm located in a very high area (naturally, chuckle)

Thank you all for reading and your kind concern.

But? time for me to unplug....

and? Anybody hear from Temptress? She's in Gulfport...

Check in with you all later, power allowing....

Later!

Well, witch.
When you read this, you'll be on the good side of Isidore. Hopin' that all is still dry.

Karen,

I'm glad you like it!
I found it in my pile of photos.
I took the picture and it's actually my eye.

Irie? that is too cool...gotta LEARN this stuff!

and just came back to add, this particular song has been running through my head for three days now:

Louisiana 1927
by Randy Newman

"What has happened down here is the wind have changed
Clouds roll in from the north and it started to rain
Rained real hard and rained for a real long time
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline

The river rose all day
The river rose all night
Some people got lost in the flood
Some people got away alright
The river have busted through cleard down to Plaquemines
Six feet of water in the streets of Evangelne

CHORUS
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tyrin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away
Louisiana, Louisiana
They're tryin' to wash us away
They're tryin' to wash us away..."

sighs

Thanks all... And we'll be okay. They don't call the coon-ass stubborn for nuttin'!
