A Life Lived By The Great Lie
September, 25, 2002
Copyright 2002 Doug Pretorius

a darkness has settled upon the minds
clouding and confusing the truth
to sinster depths the gloom descends
casting its blanket of doom over the heart
this demon lie is told by multitudes
by parents to children generations on
in its wake hopelessness and waste
lives thrown away to the winds of unreality
blown hither and thither
the peoples are a rudderless ship
on the sea of broken dreams and sunken faith
belief in greatness fades into the mist
as the gleam in a child's eye
slips into adult cynical drudgery
up, out, work, sleep...
up, out, work, sleep...
up, out, work, sleep...
punctuated with little more
than the occasional drunken fever
a life lived by the great lie
