My Dad's a man who's to the point,
He doesn't mince his words,
Senseless prattle wastes his time
And gossip's for the birds!

He claims that I do ramble on,
In a mindless chatter,
That I should think, before I speak,
And say what really matters!

When voicing his opinions,
People note what he does say,
They know he'll make, each statement count,
And not go on all day!

Perhaps he's right, for I have found,
That I am seldom heard,
Oft' times I must repeat myself,
A second or a third!

It can be disconcerting,
To find myself ignored,
For people often tune me out
Because they're getting bored!

When in a conversation,
And there comes a sudden lull,
I go and fill that silence
With anything at all!

I guess I really should take stock
Of that which I do utter,
I shouldn't talk to hear myself,
Since I've been known to mutter.

So, now I think, before I speak,
And follow Dad's advice,
"Say what you mean; mean what you say,
And always be concise!

I absolutely loved it.
I feel much the same way about myself and
my dad. He's given me the same advise.
Your poem carried a nice rhythm.

From one rambler to another, your Dad's advice is right on....

Good writing, good advice. (I'm trying to be concise!!)

Hugs, Marti

(smiles) Oh Linda, this is so very true, sweet friend, my dad tells me the same thing because I have a tendency to be descriptive when I talk and have him think "Will this anecdote ever end?" LOL! This is wonderful, sweet friend, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Sudhir---

Yes, my Dad is a wise man, and I have tried to be wise as well by following his words of wisdom---unfortunately, I am not always that successful! hehe

Thank you for your warm reply!

If your dad is right
This poetry you would not write
Then where would we be
Enriched the less

I guess one becomes content with one’s poetry when one opens the book ten years hence and does NOT exclaim, “Did I really write this?”

Paddy--

I loved your poetic reply! tehe If I took the literal meaning of all that my Dad has said to me, I'd be a bit strung out and paranoid! I always listened to his pearls of wisdom, while I was growing up, and I internalized and integrated into my being that which I felt was right for me. I do try to think before I speak--or write! But as you can see from this rambling reply---I ain't perfect!

~ Enjoy your new PIP family! ~

Chris---

You do that too? Ha Ha! I just can't stand it when there's a lull in a conversation and everyone just stares at each other in a very uncomfortable silence---I still find myself junping in---but instead of just blurting out anything, I do try to think before I speak---well, at least most of the time! hehe

Ha ha ha ha! I love that it took you eight stanzas to come to rounding up the reason and point vis a vis the element of your father's advice to you at being non-longwinded, aka concise.

Hahahahahaha! That's funny! I guess I still haven't grasped the concept of being concise!----I'm just as long-winded as ever!
