~In September~

In September
at the bending of the year
blustery breezes nip at summer swelter
and color dapples the leaves
of winded branches

vegetables ripen for harvest
and pumpkins smile their spooky grins
onto our doorsteps

birds flock southward
darkening the skies
as the wind breathes
the tart scent of ripening apples

fireplaces cozy our hearts
with visions of little witches on broomsticks
soon to be ringing doorbells of trick or treat
excusing us
for all the leftover candy we eat

musings of colored leaves burn bright
in anticipation
as another year
swerves gracefully
toward it's end

(smiles) Awwwwwwww, I love this, sweet friend, I love the early autumn and the breeze is so comforting, this is a gorgeous ode to autumn, I love it, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

MunkSter- your pictures are always perfect: the exact proportions of real eye-views and description that never fails to evoke the desired effect on a reader. I think you captured the essence of Autumn to a 'T'.

The pumpkins are ripe, here in Michigan and they are for sale at farmer's markets and supermarkets... We even have a place here which specializes solely in pumpkins... they don't sell anything else... and they have just opened for the year...

Thanks so much, Marge... Yes... the chipmunk is heading south... and she's very excited!!!
I am going to put the dirt for Titia in little pill vials(heaven knows, I have enough of them)... and we are going to try to get some from each place we stop on the way down...

This really captured the essence of fall... I could almost feel leaves crunching beneath my feet and smell warm pumpkin pie in the air. Very much enjoyed.
