Between midnight thoughts

0 posted 2002-09-21 12:32 PM

Of love and shadow your silhouette loomed,
Masking hurt with see through veils,
I sucked the poison from your wound,
And envenomed my own veins.
Your cheek so fair and eyes so sweet,
And soothing voice in honey draped,
With secrets that your tongue did keep,
Your anguished eyes gave freely away.

Your fickle way my eyes had seen,
Indifferent poise; mind did perceive,
Yet little had they been to me,
As warnings of impending tragedy.
The past resting in its grave,
Mine heart had blossomed with childish hope,
Yet, though dead, the past had stayed,
On in our lives as haunting ghosts.
I built you a fortress with my love,
In spite of the apprehension that reason brought,
Believing that I could release the dove,
Trapped within a serpents heart.

I continued to take me sedative pill,
Drowning myself in my love for you,
Tranquilising my doubts and fears at will,
Harmonising my hopes with convenient truths.
Fusing imagination with the reality of you,
Did I mould a being I could somehow derive,
In moments and phrases when you gave me due,
And made me feel of worth in your eyes.
My sedation however was wrongfully prescribed,
For though the warmth of your tender hand,
Sent jolts of lightning whenever in mine,
I knew forever was never your plan.
The feelings were real and emotions lived,
The moments, the magic of every kiss,
Were true and cannot be denied,
But now I accept and acknowledge this....

Emotions real, perceptions false,
The dishonesty was in your heart,
Making me believe in dreams without form,
Knowing inside you intended to part.
Every time I felt your kiss,
In every pore were fires lit,
Saying to myself you were the one,
While in your heart it was mere fun.
Like an eclipse my love had cast a shadow,
On your dirty little corner, blocking it out,
Greedily taking your words as solid as gold,
Blinding myself in the underlying truths, to elude my doubt.

Yet as sure as day comes in the morning,
As certain as the dawn emerges from the east,
Unchallenged as the night following the evening,
Is the fact that I loved you though you didn’t love me.
And now that we’re finally over,
One thing remains crystal clear,
That shadows don’t last forever,
And you can’t have what was never there.
All said and done, now I suffer for you,
Burning inside, my love never wanes,
Truly I sucked the poison out your wound,
And envenomed my own veins.

This is a truly outstanding write.  The emotions just flowed in superb form entirely throughout.  The depth of understanding in this piece is although rather poignant, it is also so very clear.  I wish you much peace and thank you for a wonderful gem for the treasure box.  This will touch many I am sure..

If I have touched one heart through my words, then I have acheived my dream...

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Gabriel, this is so heartachingly beautiful, I believe it is a wonderful thing for love to heal anothers heart and trying to make that special someone as happy as can be, but then it can hurt when you give so much yet that special someone wants nothing more and then the pain fills ones own heart! (sad sigh) I understand this feeling and my thoughts are with you, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Gabriel, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

I had similar thoughts to these lines not so long ago. THanks for sharing. Enjoyed the read.

Gabe, you did a find job in circling this 'round to bring it full and tight...a very good read.  More, please!

This was so heartfelt and sad. I really enjoyed this.

If your afraid of the dark, then why did you come?
