This year
I let the branches bow over the sidewalk
first a graceful arch
then pregnant
with red
until I had to walk through the yard
to get under them

I didn’t mind, not once

I’ll miss the apple tree
not much else

Christopher tells the truth.
Before you leave? Pick some of those and bake a pie, put it away for T Day....you will be thankful you did.

I will miss the idea of many things.
None of them, reality.
But I'll choose to remember, the apple tree.

Duncan,
Always the apple tree. A pleasant memory at that.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.
