In the dark and bloom
of this our first day
of Friday

I say “first day” for reason told
that each day is new
not old

and “our” because we need
a new beginning see
like watering down the day I’ll do it
with you
to clear the way
to the view
into the shrub of garden and there walk
the tall grain of green to prick our toes

wait

I hear the opening wing
and turn and turn again
to find reflection pooling on cement

my own

or the rippled gist from morning dove
a brief call from the line dissecting the sky

or you and I
