The walk of you
toward me
as my heart walked away in hide..

I wanted to, I really did, but I...
My....
I couldn’t...

When eyes can only say what my tongue
tripped over...stumbling, falling...

Failing to say one simple word...
A word which bridges oceans, spans galaxies
Understood well.....

Yet, knowing all I know, I still could not utter
the simple word as my eyes watched my feet
and my heart hid among the cracks of
the walk as we converged...

You know the word....
As your eyes fleetingly met mine, before I
again counted the cracks...

Then I knew I had just
made that one mistake
again....

You said “hello” as I counted cracks
and screamed in my mind....
saying goodbye once again....
Though we never met...

I looked back, knowing you were gone...
But you surprised me....
You looked back too....

Turning, a smile on my face....as my heart
came out thumping wildly......
My eyes saying hello as your’s said...
I understand....

This is a beautiful poem, Magnus. Sounds a little sad.

Thanx Loner...

Thanx Sue,  mostly just the struggle of a
shy man...trying to and almost failing to
break the communication barrier....Funny,
but I relate to that well from days of
old...

Barry

I could feel the discomfort of trying to form just one little word...and from someone who knows about shyness...I understand too.

Hmmm...
The heart of a strong man is most tender...we fail to understand this so often.

Awwwww.....dear Magnus, what a touching, honest poem. I wouldn't let you get away without at least a smile and maybe a wink. Enjoyed. Chris

So that's what is wrong with the teens of yesteryear...we weren't listening to the more sensitive parts of our hearts....

well done sir....

Barry, as I sit here, I can see a young man, shuffling his feet and twirling his fingers with a look of desperation on his face, so desperately wanting to say words that won't come forth.

And haven't we all at one time or another been in this situation.

Very well done and I so appreciated it.

Hugs, Marti

Moments like these are truly golden ....
next time, ask her if she has a sister!!!

Amazing what the mind holds and the heart translates.
Another excellent piece Barry!

I have always loved men who were a bit on the shy side, Barry...  I think lots of women do because it presents us with an air of mystery, which makes us want to know more.
I loved the way you described it though...
Having never been shy, myself... I would never have understood it, but you explained with such beauty that it makes me understand a lot better now.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

A heart so raw from fear
it is the turning away
from all we hold dear
that keeps tomorrow
from today.

Splendidly written, Mag!
again, in that stumbling numbness
where we see a new face
that once was one we new well

This "shy" poem is written so painfully well...I have never been shy (rather outgoing) but have always been attracted to the quieter, more shy man... I find the idea kinda intriguing and mysterious a bit. You write of it with well expressed words, dear poet and with Magnus charm.
