Lately

Lately when in the mirror I glance
I catch a glimpse of something quite by chance
The face that is staring back at me
Seems to be shrouded by a mystery
I know that image is really me
Its just I can’t see myself too clearly
The eyes that used to sparkle like so
With hurt’s tears seem about to overflow

Those lips that always split in a grin
Seem to have hidden the smile deep within
My eyes so distant seem so unsure
It’s as if they don’t believe anymore
My face seems to have lost its soft glow
What the cause of this is I just don’t know?
And my heart doesn’t feel quite so warm
I have a need to shelter from the storm

My mood is reflected back at me
My eyes softly staring so dreamily
The truth of what I feel deep inside
From my mirror image I just can’t hide
The wonder that used to overflow
Leaves me wondering about what I know
Where there was absolute certainty
There’s a question hanging over me

The face in the mirror does she know?
Where truth lies still and where lies still flow
Or has she lost her path to hope’s door
And is left seeking what went before
Seeking safety I hunt for calm
Wishing for a place away from harm
Retreat from danger stand well away
And then find it all some other day

Raise the eyes and look deep in my soul
By accepting peace can I be whole
I’ll walk the path that leads to my fate
Acquiesce to opening hopes gate
Fear is the only thing that holds me
Bound to the past my future is free
My mirror image will smile once more
And I’ll find me as I did before

Marsha

Breathe through the heat of our desire
Thy coolness and they balm
Let sense be dumb let flesh retire
Speak through the earthquake wind and fire

ROFL.... Fear not... your mirror image is merely contemplating the hernia she's gonna get hefting all those bags to the airport. *G*

Sorry 'bout that... couldn't resist. LOL

Seriously, this is excellent... No matter what face we present to the world, our fears peek over our shoulder when we peer into the mirror... but as you've written so wisely, we have to put fear in its place and move on. *S*

Beautiful poem. Vivid image. Throw the mirror in the trash and get a happy one!

Marsha - I can relate to this. Very well written thoughts. Chris

I remember once sweetie after about 10 LongIsland teas asking myself what time it was in a mirror?

This is kind of un-Marshalike.  Rest assured your beauty and love shine forth for all of us to see, love

If you can't see it, I suggest you get a new mirror because yours is definitely defective

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

I once thought i lost it all...
I waited for an angel...
but she never came back...
i wondered many times why???
The truth hurt me even more
when one day i looked at this mirror
and saw a once reflection of what remained
of me...

Nicely written marsha...loved it

hope to see more from ya...

love

This is so beautiful, but painful to read, Marsha... because I've been there too!

My advice...  Don't look at yourself in the mirror with your glasses on and get a nice new mirror...
also and this is very important....
love that person in the mirror, even if she's having a bad day.
~ loving hugs

Mushy - smile in the mirror, look at the beautiful woman that you are...

Mushy,
A deep contemplative write I love  this reflective mood of you, jus as I love it when you show your depth.

Raise your eyes...look deep into your soul.
Sound advice.
Sound, indeed.
