For all the ones I thought could be
That never did become for me
I see them now for what they were
Lessons learned to make me sure
They taught me what my life might be
If I’d not found the one for me
I chose myself for me and you
Not knowing then that you’d come true
They couldn’t know the gift they gave
Of teaching me my heart to save
Till one who truly fit the dream
Might help me find what life could mean
I thank them first for letting go
A heart they’d never come to know
I thank you now for coming true
A heart so full since finding you
Life now tastes sweet, the future clear
I’d not known love till you came near

What a beautiful piece!
I love it!
This is the first work of yours I've read.  I sure won't miss any future works

Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write.

I’d not known love till you came near

And maybe they were there the whole time...great poem.

So beautiful!  What a wonderful thing to realise that pain and loss can teach you to love.  Past lessons bring future pleasures.  I absolutely loved this!

You are way head of the game---many never learn the lessons that are inherent in all of our experiences.

Enjoyed your writing and your sharing.

Magician...I just love it when someone picks out a line...makes you feel that it was really felt...lol...or somethin like that

Gentle Spirit...I'm new at this, but I'll do my best for ya...thank you so much for taking the time.

EarthenSoul..."Past lessons bring future pleasures" thats wonderful...can I steal it? Thank you so much for reading and even more for enjoying.

Earth Angel...quite true..maybe if more would either read or write poetry, we'd have a world full of lovers instead of fighters...yep, thats gonna happen!
Thanks so much for the encouragement.
