I could gather my hopes
torn, bitter moments
of paradise that I
had once believed in,
Lash them together
in the smallest package,
bind them for their
sake of prosperity.
I could hold them
to my heart in vast
circles of grace
that failed me all
Before the wisdom of
my manic desire
could take firm hold
of my last wish.
They would be no
larger than the palm
of my beaten hand
that laid them,
All in all, a pity
of what I thought
I could have done
better, but my retreat.
I could hear them once,
laughing like orphend
children caught out
in a rainstorm,
Not quite aware of
being alone, nor of
being wet, only of
being children, being themselves.
Listen to them, their
sounds of infinity
moving through the
passages of my mind,
Whistfully aware of
my own time passing
through my mortality,
and my solemn ignorance.
I hold them to my heart,
and hear them not,
forever gone in my
rage of my lost youth,
Open my hand to the sun
and let them float silently
so I may forget them
and renew my hopes again.

Listening to every heart

Perhaps it was prophetic that I would be listening to "The Flight of the Unicorn" as I read this piece.  Michael, you've done yourself proud with this bit of introspection...

Beautiful image. Great lines.
