Sing to me
a torch song
Like the melodies
of long ago.
When love meant
more than
twin tattoos
and Judy Garland
stole the show.
Sing words of
passion's promise
Call me darling,
sweetheart, dear.
Tell me that
stars come out
though the sun shines,
Whenever I am near.
Dance with me
to a "big band"
While I am dressed
in a satin gown
Let Glenn Miller
orchestrate his magic
as Bing Crosby croons-
blue eyes cast down.
You're quite dapper
in your tails and top hat
as you lift me
up into the air.
I feel just like
Ginger Rogers
Could you be my
Fred Astaire?
Yes, sing to me
a torch song
I don't care if
you sound off key.
Just belt one out
like Sinatra
Be my
song and dance man
fantasy.

Congratulations on number 2000

May I have the next waltz, foxtrot, swing, buckle-polisher?  Well, at least put me down on your dance card ... somewhere

Dance away, Chris. This should really fill up that dance card. I think I see the line forming already.

Chris

The romance is still around somewhere, certainly in this poem, almost felt like music when read...and a dance.  Congratulations on 4000.

Chris,  this is a good one for your newest
milestone...  (clearing my throat, trying
to sing....)

I'll sing to you a song
and try not to be off key
I'll sing it all night long
For you...so delicately...

My words shall just flow
as the crooning does start.
Not stealing his show
just stealing your heart...

superbity, to coin a word, is in this all throughout,

I felt I was in place of you,
enjoying every move

nostalgia traveled here and there,
in and out of every line
and the moves upon the dance floor
made me feel quite mighty fine

Congrats, too, on your 2000th!

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.
