Dad Come Out and Play

Dad I want a candy bar.
Well go and get one son.
Dad you have to take me.
Come on Dad we'll have lots of fun.
Oh Dad, I want some baseball cards too.
Buy me some baseball cards...will you?
Dad teach me how to ride my bike.
Come and play some catch with me.
Read me a Mickey Mouse story.
Come out and play with me.
Dad me and you can have lots of fun.
These are the memories of conversations
between a father and his five year old son.
Now my son is almost twenty nine
and I wonder what happened to all the time.
And I miss those days when my son needed me
so desperately and ask me every day.
"Dad come out and play."...

Dad teach me how to ride my bike.
Play some catch with me.
Read me a Mickey Mouse story.
Dad come out and play with me.

I love them desperately
and miss them very much

They sound like three very lucky young men, James. I'll bet, there are times when these wonderful memories surface in their minds as well, bringing a smile to them ... just like you did for me today.

Best wishes,
/Kit

Hello James

I was so very moved by your heartfelt words and I must say that this reminded me of the song by Harry Chapin called "Cat's In The Cradle".  Your love for your sons shines through your words.

Take care......Sue

Dear James,

This is a great poem and you are a good father but it made me cry because I have never known my father, I have never got to say "Dad come out to play", or "Dad teach me how to ride my bike". If you knew what he did to my mom you would also understand why I hate him so much but thank you for sharing and your sons are so lucky to know their dad and to have been able to say those things.

JM,  I try to always think of just exactly
this on days when I reflect back many years
to another time...when I too was that child.

Yes, love them,  enjoy them and when the
opportunity comes,  take it and run with
it....that they can feel the love of a
father,  and experience the joy of being
together,  playing, laughing...and even
crying together...

Nicely done,  very much so....

Barry
