(All day I struggled to write anything, then suddenly these words came to me, which I dedicate to everyone in remembering and reaching out to all the victims and their families and children! God Bless You All! )

The Calling
By: Noah Eaton
9/11/02

Silence floods all around me
Silence in prayer, hands pressed tightly
Helicopters cutting the sky like a ratchet
Mothers holding their babies closely
I'm wearing a hurricane under my collar
A lump in my throat so deep and wide
The highway feels so quiet today
Hurrying home to hear the news, going fifty-five

Gather round beneath the sky
Most precious blood, yours and mine
Listen to His calling
Words of compassion for you and I

Went through a sultry afternoon
Church bells clanging, eyes in pilgrimage
Heaven and earth I saw commiserating
Healing every wise man's hemorrhage

Gather round beneath the sky
Most precious blood, yours and mine
Listen to His calling
Words of compassion for you and I

Angels are flying everywhere now
Cheeks stained in charcoal, George Herbert's poetry echoing brotherhood
May their light embrace us dearly
Showing us this "land of spices, something understood."

They say "The heart has its reasons which reason knows nothing of."
Why must we reason with this, I'm not sure
There's visions of all our kids
Painting across a sky so obscure
God, help us, we need this
God, may your strength give us strength
I have half a mind to cry
I have half a mind to reach arm-length
One tear, a tear for sadness
Two tears, tears for grief
Three tears, tears for fear
Four tears, tears to believe
Five tears, tears of hope
Six tears, tears of promise
Seven tears, falling from heaven
Rise now, Lady Liberty is burning with kismet...

Gather round beneath the sky
Most precious blood, yours and mine
Listen to His calling
Words of compassion for you and I

In the name of Love
Embrace His calling...
Everyone get together
Listen to His calling...

"Underneath your clothes there's an endless story..."

Noah, I salute you! I'm also curtsying---and bowing! This was brilliant and moving!

"heaven and earth I saw commiserating"--one of the several lines that bear repeating.

The pictures you painted with your words, drew me in so completely, that I felt like I was there by your side.

Noah!!!!! sometimes your writing still amazes me (wiping away tears so I can type) You definately have a way with words.... straight thru my heart.

and even as we hear the call we know that heaven and earth mourn this day.

I remember driving home last year.... I couldn't see past my own tears.  All day I had been at work hearing bit and pieces.... from customers filing past me with their groceries. ...none of it fit together for they all said something different... little did I know that it was ALL true ALL OF IT. As I heard it for the first time on the radio in my car.... My heart was in my throat, my stomach hurt, my eyes burnt and My jaw ached from being clenched so tight.... just to keep from screaming and weeping .... and I shook all over.

You really are a sensetive fellow so I know you understand.

Moving post, my dear.

Love, Light and Peace,

Sherry

Gentle sensitivity is not a weakness. It takes a strong man to not be afraid of showing his emotions. The storms of life break the mighty oak but the slender reed bends before it to rise tall again.

This is a beautiful poem of faith. We should ALWAYS reach to Him, and He will always be there to hear our cries. Thank you for sharing.

Noah-you old man-in young man's clothes:

How can you know of these things, so intuitively?  But of course, you are right:  no matter how loud the din of chaos, the Calling overlaps it, making itself known.  For it is comfort, and not tragedy, that speaks to the victims with the Great Voice.
