Lingering

I’m sorry
to say
I let
your flowers die
and not
one tear
could stop
their dry
I saw
them wilt
right in front
of my face
and nothing
can fill
this empty
space
I toasted
its death
with a bottle
of wine
could have shared
with another
but left it
as mine
I felt it
only fitting
to end
it’s life
with a toast
now all
I have left
is
a lingering ghost

I’m not disappointed,  I never expected anything from you.

h,
sorry about the ghost
but i like the poem
your work is rarely disappointing
i had a flip response in mind when i keyed this up, 'cause i desperately need some levity today, but you don't deserve "flip".
I'll save it for another time . . .
