Sometimes the most
difficult
thing to search for,
and hopefully
find,
is one's self.
Lost deep within
life's
cluttered basement
of woes,
unable to cry out
for help
for fear of
being a burden,
or
rocking the boat,
it's tortured soul
weeps unnoticed
in a cobwebbed
corner,
along with
stolen youth,
failed attempts,
and one too many
apologies.
I lost myself once.
But, my brave
heart
became my compass
that led me
through
that dark cellar
of disillusionment,
up the stairs of
salvation
into the light
and love
of home.

I got some sage advice when I was learning to navigate my sail boat.My instuctor told me not to be upset if I strayed off course and got lost.Every one gets lost.It is more important to know and admit you are lost. Then what you do to find your self again that counts.Life is like the sea. Some times it is calm and there are navigation aids to keep you on course but sometimes it is stormy and all you can do is try to steer a straight course till you find your way again.

The self is always just where we last left it, and never where we thought.

Thank you.  It's good to see your words again.

..."my brave heart, became my compass"

--and your words, dear Nightshade, shall now provide the compass for others to find themselves. Kudos for you, on a brilliant poem of self-discovery and personal triumph!

PS---I love all the nightshade vegetables---potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant---but most of all I like Nightshade's writing!

Take Care!
