Earth revolves
and vomits another day,
to my dismay.

Suicidal waves
throw themselves upon the shore to die.
I’ll not ask why.

I was once gold,
now nothing more than rusting iron.

Can thoughts bleed?
Can a spirit rot?
Yes, for I have smelled decay.
I pray.
Oh yes, I pray.

I  was once called a saint.
In private,
I laughed my ass off.
It made me cough.

Damn lungs!

I’ll crawl and claw
through this day,
like all the rest
and those to come.

Though, if only,
I were numb.

Michael

Yes, thoughts can bleed...I think yours have in this intense poem.  I like it when you open up your feelings and write with this edgy honesty...it's good.

(big hugggssssss) Oh Michael, these are such powerful, provoking thoughts, as Albert Schweitzer quotes, "A man does not have to be an angel in order to be a saint!". Furthermore, I think you don't have to feel clean to be a saint, for you are a very compassionate and heartwarming person and knowing that I can say wholeheartedly your spirits are born to soar and you will be blessed with so much God has to offer you as we all love you so much! (sigh) Thoughts can bleed but ambitions ae the tourniquet to the most precious ones, always believe in yourself, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michael, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

You have captured my mood today perfectly, Michael...
I love the intensity of this poem, but I hope you aren't thinking those thoughts about yourself...

A spirit can

while reaching for
freedom a moment
from the door,
I swear I've been
there before...

A spirit can
choke on life
only to spew
what was thought
to be sure,
I swear I've been
here before...

& while the wish
to be deafened, dumb,
even numb against the
pain...
the next day dawns
& we somehow find the
strength to cleave on...

*hugs to you Michael*

Martie, thank you.  I'm glad you like the intensity of this one. *hugs*

Noah, I never fail to blush a little at your kindness.  Thank you, my friend.

Lyra, I understand your mood well, as you know.  You're always in my prayers.  This is just a poem, perhaps a way of healing, but nothing more.  *hug* sweet lady.

Michael - excellent telling of your feelings. My heart ached as I read this. Chris

'''"though, if only, I were numb"
Auguste--you struck a strident chord with this line (as you did with all the lines above it!)

I'm sure everyone who reads this gut-wrenching piece, will be able to identify with it, at least one time in their life---and some of us more than that!

If we were to numb ourselves at those times---and many do---through drugs, alcohol, sex, pills...nothing is gained. We don't grow when we don't feel---and when the numbing phase is over, the problems are still there---may even have worsened---and then the need for more drugs, alcohol....

It's a vicious circle. I'm not suggesting that you do this---but maybe someone who is reading my response might. I've seen this so much in my work, that I feel passionate about this subject.

As Noah quoted Albert Schweitzer, "A man does not have to be an angel in order to be a saint."

The converse, I believe, is also true----A man does not have to be a saint, in order to be an angel!----Sure hope I'm right about that, or my wings are going to fall right off my back! tee-hee

PS--Keep spilling---we'll keep listening!

Take Care

May your day be full of
Love, Light & Laughter

Those words were painfully in tune with many people I've known who were gripped tightly by the giant squeezing hand of Pain.
Peaceful thoughts flying your way.
