a door opens

a door to a fall day too close
to a summer month
a normal wind blows through
       the colors of a people
gathered in peace in the center of the world
a Lady watches
       a flame guides
              and a door opens

a Silver Door
gleaming and twisting
leading to the twin spires of humanity's cathedral
       on this pleasing shore
but yet, not only this door
       but other doors as well
doors of red, of blue, of gray
doors to places
       doors to times
              doors to lives
doors that were never meant to be closed

walking through those doors, they came
they came on this day, from those places
they came to seek, to find, to know
they came to begin a day of being
this fall day, that still felt like summer

yes, just as doors open, they do close
swinging the other way when we least expect them
this day, the doors of flight were sealed shut
       never to be open again
until the hand of life tore them from their hinges

and then, a door opened
       and a voice screamed
              a door closed
                     and a fist pounded
a door opened
       and a star crashed
              a door closed
                     and a spire crumbled
a door opened
       and the world froze
              a door closed
                     and a heaven watched
a door opened
       and a goodbye was whispered
              a door closed
                     and a prayer went unanswered

and then, the door was locked
                              and the key, lost forever

and, in the distance, a Lady wept
a Lady wept as she took the masses
the masses the she once welcomed into her arms
as they entered the Golden Door of her land,
she guided them one final time from her Golden Door
       to the Silver Door of
                              Eternity
as the red of fall
               colored more than the leaves

(and a door closed)

and now, again today
she weeps
          and she remembers
and, through her tears
she sees the Silver Door open once more
the names and the faces come rushing back
and, as one voice
          she hears their one word
Remember
          and, as her heart breaks
                and her soul bleeds
she speaks back her one word
always

they hold her up
      they join with her spirit
they are now as she is
           Guardians of the Flame
           Watchers of the Shore
                   and
           Keepers
                   of the Silver Door

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world.

BRAVO!!! Oh my gosh, I love everything about this, the enjambment and how the whole poem seems to be a lady running up and down a flight of stairs in her mind to find what she left behind after the tragedy before through that silver door and the anaphora of the sounds and responses to each of her opening of doors seeking relief from the sadness! (big hugggssssss) This is marvelous, sweet friend, my thoughts continue to go out to all the victims of this day almost one year ago, I have missed your wonderful words lately, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sven, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

I hope the doors to
World Peace
are still open.
The Lady cries,
yet holds out hope,
with open arms.

Sven, it is good to read your thoughts in blue again.

Oh GR8 Voice of the Northlands ... I am almost, not quite, but almost speechless.  So many thought flew through my mind (no wisecracks here) as I read your magnificent piece.

I will say only, SUPERB!
BRAVO!

Thank you.
