Moved from a shack to a barn

0 posted 2002-09-07 01:33 PM

After my shower
I dressed in my best
uniform of denim
and flannel

To bury a man that
was friend to me
and mentor to my son

At the memorial
I noticed the odd looks
induced
by this odd man
with long hair
and gray beard

Then scanned the assemblage
for the handful
that know
who I am

That know
I was there
for my son
and the man resting
under that flag

And not so the rest
might feel better about
themselves

In reply to "which way do we go?", the answer was never "straight", but, "progressively forward".

Your words, so simply stated, moved me so.

My prayers go out to all those, who have lost loved ones, whiled serving their country. My personal prayers to you and your son.

Might I also add, that you are being far too humble, for a man who can touch the heart and soul of so many others through your writing.

Linda

I come to be
of who I am
and not of
whom you wish
me to be
I know where
my heart it
lies, it lies
in the very
center of me

this touched me...helen

Well if this is like decoupage, you have layered it seamlessly.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown

You were there for your friend and that's all that matters. Sorry for your loss. Well written piece. Chris

that's all that matters, Ed
you were there for three people
and if someone is your friend?

I've not read the others replies to this,
I felt safer in doing so.  I see several layers of meaning to this, and I choose to
hold you with the one that hit hardest...

May they both
rest in peace.

Due respectfully paid. This could have applied to nearly any organized religions assembledge. Almost makes one envy those no longer in attendance. Enjoyed.
