Do you know what it feels like to be a fish out of water?
Do you know how it feels to need people around you like you need air to breathe?
Trapped within four walls
day in and day out
Only finding short reprieves like small cups of water
Only lasting a few hours
Heaveing and sputtering
gasping for air
Jumping from one small bowl to another
wishing you could fill your lungs
It's not an easy way to live
being a fish out of water
I fear for the fish
I fear for myself
How long can a fish survive out of water?
How long can I sit behind four walls
waiting to breathe again?

actually I get people more than I need them, and when I get them, it's suffocating.

Sorry to hear that. Me I'm just the opposite. This has been the longest year of my life!! Not working, stuck out in the boonies with no money and few good friends.. Sorry..I'm whineing. Send a few of those suffocating people my way will ya? I could use the company.

Hi Tammy!

I enjoy my solitude.  And sometimes I just doing breathing exercises when I'm alone that I wouldn't do in front of others.  Strange that your poem startled this out of me.

The truth is that I have known times that I thought that I would die of loneliness.  Now I find solitude preferable to company that I don't enjoy.

There are all kinds of ways to look at a subject.  I do not want to discount your feelings or minimize your pain.  I just put these thoughts out there...

Excellent imagery...

Must've been a rough year Tammy, but please try to turn your thoughts to positive thinking.

Look not at the things you don't have or have lost, but concentrate on the things you still have. The Sun is rising for free every day, put a plant in a pot and watch it grow, there's always something positive.

Hope things get better for you soon

Thanks to you all for your kind comments. I was having a self-pity party last night when I wrote this. Don't worry about me, though, I always bounce back. I'm already thinking of ways to get out. My husband has agreed to let me work part time at night if I can just find the right job that will work with me on the hours. It'll a work out in the end, it always does. But..in the meantime, I just wanted to say thank you to all you lovely people out there that take the time to "listen" to me and share your words of hope and encouragement. I really means a lot to me. Hugs to all!!
Tammy
