The children are out playing in the mudhole.
Mama hollers out you`ll catch a cold.

The farmer comes home from working in the fields.
Praying the crops will make a good yield.

He knows the bank might come and foreclose.
But growing tobacco is all he knows.

Supper is cooked and ready to eat.
But the farmer is dead tired on his feet.

Farming is not at all like it used to be.
It was hard work but some profits you could see.

You would work hard and still have some fun.
Then look back and be proud of what you`ve done.

Born in North Carolina I worked in the fields.
I bought my school clothes and life felt fullfilled.

Tobacco is about gone now it seems.
Growing cotton is most farmer`s dreams.

Whether tobacco or cotton a farmer knows.
The joy you feel watching your crop grow.

So lets keep the American Farmer alive.
Keep them in our prayers and hope they survive.

yep, gotta keep em alive

let's see, can we come up with another use for tobacco leaves, how about wrapping something that we don't smoke or eat

can they be spun into fibers and woven?

btw, I think you want 'feel' instead of fill in the 2nd to last couplet

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

Dear North Carolina Girl----By this very poem, you are helping keep our "Farmers Alive"---by drawing attention to their plight and making people sit up and take notice of the often unappreciated services they provide.

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Juanita, I too wish for the same thing so very much, I have grown up and gotten to know my grandma and grandpa so well and they love to farm in Missouri and it seems I am always so happy when I help them out every summer, but it saddens me to see technology advance and replace farming and I pray this can change and farming can go on! (kiss on cheek) This is beautifully heartfelt, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Juanita, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Farmers are so important Juanita...
They keep our country running, way more than most people even realize...
Thanks for sharing this with us.
