And now, I do not wish to talk--
I am a silent child again
rocking in a hallway, locked
hugging knees to quivered chin.

I close my ears to "where are you?"
I am a silent child again
blocking sight of world in rock
fearing bite from friendly grin.

It is my last defense...

Oh, I know this feeling so well. Spent much of my marriage like this. Sometimes we’ve got to take our defenses where we can get them. Great title K…sums it up perfectly.

Serenity,
That's one way to do it. Clever and good write.

Serenity~
The title is perfection~

Conjures up a not-so-perfect image~

I like this one for the depth of thought it leaves~

Tracey---um...yep, it's a habit of mine since childhood, I can "go silent" to such an extreme sometimes, that they feared I WAS autistic---hell, I just wanted to be left alone, yanno? of course you do! Thanks for reading, lovie!

sy...it was never something I thought about...thanks dawlin' for the "clever"

Marge, thank you for popping in, I miss our late night "ping-pong" forum play! (That IS FORUM play, people!) So many poets, so little time...love to you, m.o.m.s.

LR? thank you for the rock--wish I could help with the roll...but I be barefoot these days.

Thanks to all.

I have a cousin that is austistic and this sounds very much like his behavior.  Nicely written!

Hey Kar. power words as always. Huge hugs. Keep a look out for the rainbow, there is one after every storm, take care of yourself, ok.

I had read this a couple times before but going through I didn't comment...but I wanted to let you know how this touched me, how truthful, how deep...how I can relate now, as always
