Pretend Forever

I am bereft, desolate damsel,
a coffin full of beauty, unclaimed.
Lips, unmoist from vows, poison me
a prisoner of hunger, ‘someday’ unquenched,
I am no apple of a man's eye -
an ugly step-sister beneath the gown.
Yes, my prince, I’ll settle for the frog lips of fate
and plant warts in the garden of faith.

Penetrate my believe with your Pinocchio manhood,
kiss me awake to sleep so I can dream,
I’ll wear your strings, dance the catatonia…
tell me that love isn’t just a word,
read me the fairytale, let’s pretend forever.

I’ll cut up all my credit cards and be a poor man’s second choice,
and, I’ll fly the Superman without the cape,
I’ll even accept the raincheck for all the plastic flowers you will pick me
on a summer’s morn when the sun is tangerine cutout, construction paper born
from a little girl’s scissors, lace-skinned lovers in a row
with mom and dad fighting in the background.

Carve out my pumpkin heart
in chant of spell to glass slipper,
and from it, sip my whine to wine
so that I may be a love’s hangover
though pretending that you’ll still want me after midnight.

Like this...I told a woman that I was dating one time...as it was approaching midnight... that she would turn into a pumkin at midnight...but then what do you say at midnight...James

Playtime ends when the toys have been picked up, and the clock chimes sunset.

Thank you.

First let me say how much I enjoy the way you write.... even though the content disturbs me so.  What has made you so cynical, little sister???  Please don't ever settle for the frogs of this world... even though you may have to kiss a few before you find your prince... You are no one's puppet and shouldn't make yourself into one to be happy... real happiness only lies in knowing yourself, being yourself, loving yourself and any prince (not frog) that has chosen to dance with you at sunset will still hold you in high regard when midnight comes... even if at that moment you turn into a pumkin. It will not matter to the REAL prince.  I truly believe that there is someone out there for everyone.... it just takes time to find them.  Three years ago I started my journey of hope out of a 6 year settle-for tunnel of darkness .... I had convinced myself during that period that this was "good enough" and became the puppet that cooked, cleaned, listened, and ... youknow.... you never sell youself short till that point... when you think that this is as good as it will ever get and you are still unhappy.  The truth lay beyond that tunnel somewhere... but as long as you are on the path, you WILL emerge.

Don't sell yourself short.

Love, Light and Peace,

Sherry Gardner

But above all... be kind to yourself today.

Dear sweet honeybee---your words of woe,  wove weeds around my heart---they choked, they squeezed---they brought back painful memories. You'd do well to heed the wise words of Magicmystery!

(big hugggsssssss) Oh Melissa, I am so sorry you have felt sad lately, I know how hard it must be not to feel cynical during times like these but know deep down that true love will always find a way and that pumpkin of your heart will be lit with a candle and your fairy-tale will be laden with roses! (sigh) My thoughts are with you, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such  a beautiful heart, sweet Melissa, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

A very sad write, Melissa.  Don't settle for anything less than what you're wanting.  Your imagery is superb, your feelings, hauntingly beautiful.  *hugs* sweet friend.

the earth will turn on as before,
the gulls, still race along the shore,
the morning star, still kiss the dawn

Honestly, this poem is just a rough copy, as I am not totally happy with it.  For some reason, it lacks that power and pizazz that I always strive for...but, yes, it is almost finished, it just needs a bit of tweeking.
I posted this just to see the reaction and to possibly see if I would get any suggestions on how to improve...I thank you all for your great replies, so, perhaps it is finished?!

If you peruse the archives, you'll see that I've written many love and romantic poetry, I am usually a very optimistic person, but, I also like to explore the other side of love...I am hooked on the fairytale theme!  My muse needs new inspiration obviously, but, right now, I am trying to make the mundane unique and add some twists to this often common theme.

it is a song that rises from a bleeding
