Motionless
As a sentinel,
In stalwart stance
Before a looming gate...

Yet plotting a maiden flight
Across a foreboding threshold
To a new realm of
Once unfathomable dreams.

Through seasons and a day
Skulking trepidations
Jeer at rising inklings
Of imminent prowess;

Until a glimmer of courage,
Supplanting childlike fears,
Embarks tentatively like a Cowardly Lion
To a rocky new adventure.

Focus
Look ahead
Balance

CRASH...!!

Refocus
Concentrate
Balance

CRUNCH...!!

Focus again
Zone in
Balance

SPLOOTCH...!!!

One more time
Pedal
Pedal

Pedal onward
Triumphantly
Empowered

BEING
The Best Ever
Mini-Sport
Roadmaster

And...
Then...
Stop?
But HOW?

A lesson well learned need happen only once.
Remembrance is infinite.

Waft every crest upon your destined sea
Embrace the wave of Serendipity
Lest its elusive arcane ecstasy
Refurl with sail for all eternity

Nancy Ness

Nan,
what a delightful piece of work both the poem and the riding.

Is that Cassandra? Isn't she a doll! She'll get the hang of riding real soon. I think you should paste this and the pics into a scrapbook for her. Well done Nan!

Oh I loved to see her tenacios side, but then we knew it was there all along right?  Cassandra good for you, Tori is still trying.  As for the stopping - Splootch is a good way to put it, but with Tori it has more of a wailing cry attached to it actually.   This was too cute for words, saved it, and maybe you can ride me "double" by the time I get there next year.  Well done GRAMMA!

Hey kidlet, the great thing about free verse is that they are never finished...and are sort of like eating potatoe chips...you can't do just one!
