Alone in a darkened room
Yet another depressing day
The sun might well be shining
But you don't see a single ray

Drowning in a sea of negativity
No positives in your life
On more than one occasion
You had thought of using a knife

Every road you chose seemed futile
Unable to find your guiding light
Each day the same as the other
Darkness filled both day and night

There was nobody you could talk to
No one knew how you felt inside
You constantly fought your demons
And no longer could you hide

The approaching silver train
Would end your life for sure
Your illness had now worsened
For you there seemed no cure

Your life came to an end
Yesterday at half past three
A life so out of focus
Your eyes unable to see

I felt a pang of sadness
For in some way I could relate
I hope you find eternal peace
As you enter heaven's gate

* * * *

This was written about a person
who ended their life in front of
a train last week near my home.
I heard they were suffering from
depression and that word sent a
shiver down my spine.I remembered
my own experience with depression
and while I wasn't suicidal I could
imagine to a degree how hopeless
this person felt.We all need to
open our eyes and our hearts to
people suffering this debilitating
disease and realise that it is real
and that more and more people are
at the mercy of this unseen disease.

I am in motion
I am blue
Love is an ocean
I'm anchored in you

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Sue, I'm so sorry to hear this, my heart cries out to the family of this person who was lost by the train, depression is terrible and I pray we can all reach out to those who have it more often and help them! (big hugggssssss) When I was a boy I was depessed every single day, I even thought suicidal sometimes and almost lost my life, but I felt God pushed me away and now I am so fortunate I am still here as I have turned to Him and now want to spend my life helping others feeling this disease! (sad sigh) God Bless You, sweet friend, you are one of the most compassionate people I've ever known, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Sue, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Sue...A super poem.
I agree with you about doing something to help other people avoid the same fate as the person in your poem.
At one time or another I believe we all go through different degrees of depression, we just need to learn to help others in time of need...Paul

How true this is and how sad, Sue...
You express it so very well too!
I've never been depressed for more than a few hours at a time, so I really can't say that I know what it feels like...
but I can imagine...
If it feels bad enough to take your own life, it must be pretty horrible...
Right now...that makes so little sense to me, as I am fighting hard to keep mine.
~ loving hugs

Sue:  This is such a bizarre coincidence, as a friend of ours was telling us tonight about a friend of his, who commited suicide by stepping in front of a train last Thursday. He left a note but didn't explain why!

Sue - From my experiences with depression in my own family, there is no worse illness. Love and understanding are so vital but it is not enough to cure depression. Only meds and a really good doctor or hospitalization can pull a person through, hopefully.

Sadly, way too many people go through life without help and understanding and many end up as this person did. It is just heartbreaking. Thank you for writing about a very important subject and I hope it will help someone who needs it.

Hugs, Marti

Wow! Sue this is an incredible write. I know, in a very intimate way, a person who suffers from depression. It has not plagued me as much as an adult. But it is a crippling illness for some.

your words say much Sue - they show us the soul of a troubled person and ask us to care about all who are so troubled - great poetry - Paul
