How Bitter the Soul

If, perchance, you decide to imbibe
in elixir of temptation, no matter how tart
and suffer the indignation of its wooing siren
dispossessed and locked to a guillotine blade
you now know its flavor, like licking steel
of how bitter one's own soul tastes

Or mourn the loss of a giving smile
that once was wore with selfless pride
and given so generously to a lonely face
For when that second of withdrawal is done
the busy of man takes the driver seat
you will be clad in the isolation
of knowing how bitter one's own soul tastes

Or give up the right to love and be loved
in preference to burning two-wicked candles
hiding in words that magicians manifest
you are a member of the velvet glove
massaging the want with the pleasure of now
you will recoil at a caustic displeasure
of knowing how bitter
one's own soul tastes.

Good...very good...in fact...extremely so..

My,  I think I have tasted this soul of mine
from time to time...and yes,  perchance at
times it has been most foul...  But I find
that knowing that taste,  experiencing it..
helps one learn of ourselves and grow...

Magnus, you have something critical to living, in what you said:
that learning which path to choose
relies on the experience of yesterday
no matter how bitter it was
it sweetens today.

Thankx good amigo!  Happy Labor day, Barry.
You are a good guy.  One I respect.

You write some hard truths here Jeff~
Mistakes are a fact of life but they're also a learning tool that leads to forgiving ourself as well as others.  I guess it's like anything, the choices we make are of our own choosing....it's the whole cause and effect syndrome.  This drives the point home, (and reminds me of a conversation I was having with my "teenagers" over the weekend)  that it's your bed and it is to your advantage to make it right!  Always a good message from you Jeff~  *applause*

Hey Lor!  Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.  Silly teenagers, huh?  They have all the answers until their 'philosophies' fall thru.  I hope they are doing well, especially B , who last time we talked, was venturing out on her own a bit.
And dang if i haven't burnt a few careers by the taste of my own soul.  Darn it anyway!  *s*
Things always worked out in the end, but at the time they seem insurmountable.  Thankx, Lor, and have a great week, K?

Hi Nance and a happy Holler-Day to ya!
Oh, i did a no-no, smacked my own wrist,
and instantly felt that sometimes,
the act of soft sins
are made harsher to others than ourselves
and that is where i need to improve.
So, a poem was born out of a necessary remorse.
You take care, and
catch ya on the flip side!
Jeff

(big hugggssssss) Oh Jeff, I believe we are all born innocent yet we are also born misunderstood, and just as we are all entitled to use the velvet glove, some seem to get by without experiencing much and struggles learning how to sympathize with the bitter and aching hearts, while it seems the others that have felt so much know the skill well! (sigh) This is powerfully heartfelt, sweet friend, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Jeff, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

P.S: I got your call, thank you so much, I will call you during the week! Yay!

Boy, do I know well the pain of isolation when that "busy of Man" draws a heart away. I've tasted that nettle stew far too many times.

Powerful image here darlin, so rich in meaning and deeply inspired contemplation. A++

I really liked this, because I had to read it over carefully to squeeze every nugget of prose in poem you penned here.  Unique and exquisitely written.

Now this is a thinker. One cannot read this poem without doing a bit of self-examination. Another great piece to mediatate over.
