~A Woman of the New Millenium~

She is an enchanting performer
an acrobat in a fur coat
her agile body piroettes
from her hammock of leaves
with the grace of a practiced ballerina

a nattering little flirt,
she dances the fence without missing a step
her tail curled gleefully around her back

a woman of the new millenium,
assertive, yet playful

meeting her goals
she makes good investments
in today's fickle marketplace
she is a winner
and her prize of the moment is...

my Aloe Vera plant
~

(giggles in delight) Oh my gosh, I swear, this is one of the cutest poems I have ever read and I think this has given me the biggest smile out of any poem I can remember yet! (kiss on cheek) I guess he'll have to settle for aloe vera for now but soon he'll have his banyun tree! LOL! This is so adorable, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Thanks Noah...
I'm glad I gave you the giggles
We have been watching this little lady all summer.
We think she was born this past spring because she's still quite young...
she has a twin sister and 2 clutzy brothers.
I don't know if you read my poem which I posted a few weeks ago called "The Furry Bird".  Its about the squirrel who was imprinting on the birds...
He would eat out of our feeder, and then he tried to fly and fell flat on his face...poor thing.  That was one of her brothers.
They are so much fun to watch... and now we have a chipmunk who has made a burrow under our privacy fence in a perfect spot to see it from our kitchen and the computer room...
I will write a poem about her soon also...

I never knew that squirrels loved Aloe Vera so much...
This is our second one to do that.  The mother of this one stole our Aloe leaves this past spring when she was pregnant...
It makes me wonder if this one is expecting also.
She was just born this spring... it must be a teen pregnancy...

We've been having so much fun watching these little guys all summer long...
We've now gotten so that we can tell the two males apart because one has a white diamond shape on his throat... but the two females appear to be identical twins.

These are actually grey squirrels, not chipmunks...
we do have a chipmunk who lives in the front of our house underneath our privacy wall.  Our little postage stamp garden is his territory and every day, he comes out and defends it by chattering loudly.

We have a chipmunk living in our little garden in front of our house... and we've started feeding her (we think she's a she)
She stuffs her cheeks full and then she scampers really fast into her little burrow to store it for the winter and just about 2 minutes later she's back again doing the same thing.  Sometimes she can't cram it all into her little cheek pouches just by getting into her mouth...so she takes some more in her hands and crams that in also...
She must have the biggest cheek pouches ever.
I'll watch for your squirrel poem.  Why don't you email me the link.

and I certainly appreciate all of your prayers.
The little lady in the poem is not a chipmunk though...  she's a grey squirrel... and she and her family think they own our living room deck.
They don't seem to be afraid of us especially since they think we live in a glass cage...

You just love squirrels don't ya Lyra? Yesterday while I was in the yard I watched one eat three pine cones. The best part was watching him come all the way down the tree each time he dropped it and drag it back up there again. Not without turning and scolding me for watching, and I don't know, maybe for laughing too.

I'm glad that Ms. Squirrel brightened your day.  Its a good thing for her that we don't mind her eating our plants.
We also have beautiful double petunia plant which is hanging on our deck and she helps herself to those flowers also...
The male squirrels don't seem to go after the plants as much... I guess they must be meat and potato guys

I love to watch them play... they are so adorable and they think they own our livingroom deck...  Their nest is in the maple tree which is adjacent to it, so we've watched them grow up.
We also have a little chipmunk living under the privacy fence in front of our little postage stamp garden.  We have a perfect view of her from our computer room and our kitchen... so we've been feeding her so she will stick around.
I loved your squirrel story.  It sounded as if he was nervous but he cared more about the pine cones than about his fright.

You are probably right.  Wild animals usually sense what is right for them to eat... unlike us...
But it really surprised me that they would like Aloe Vera... and they must like it a lot because its a big effort for them to pull the leaves out of those plants...
And thats what they do.  We've seen them dragging those leaves away, and the leaves are bigger than they are

Lyra,
You live in the woods too?!! My Mother has a squirrel just like that one and it eats her Aloe plants as well...not to mention the corn she puts out for the deer, or the bird seed in the "squirrel proof" feeders!! Loved this write. Thanks for the laugh.

Thanks Tammy,
Our condo backs right into the woods, and there are 4 little squirrels who own our deck.
They aren't scared of us because they think we are the creatures in the glass cage who put the bird feeder out and water the plants.
The females also eat our petunias and they all manage to get on the bird feeder...but we don't chase them away because they are so entertaining and they really don't steal much from the birds...
Actually they are more afraid of the birds than the birds are of them...and when the birds want the feeder...they just dive bomb the squirrels...and the squirrels know that the birds have sharp beaks...
They are so much fun to watch...

Mme. Chipmunk,
Ah ha! You found her! She's nothing but trouble. She ate through a whole box of Puff's Plus last week -- her and that aloe!

(by the way, her name is Squirrela D'acorne. Please be kind to her ... she's had it rough. But I won't take her back! I won't!)
